My name is Alexa and I received a Masters in Social Work from Simmons University. Currently I hold my License Certified Social Worker (LCSW) in Massachusetts. I have experience working in a crisis setting where I have developed a strong understanding of providing compassionate, supportive care during difficult and overwhelming times. Prior to working in this setting, I have experience working with children and families. I have worked with adults who are seeking support in managing their anxiety, depression and trauma symptoms. I have worked with children who need a little extra support in social skills and emotional regulation.
I utilize Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) to help clients challenge their core beliefs, reframe their thoughts and learn skills to regulate the challenging emotions we may face on a daily basis. Understanding how our thoughts impact our feelings and behavior, we can learn new ways to take control back in our lives.
I am passionate about meeting individuals where they are at and helping them develop the skills and confidence they need to navigate challenges they face. I recognize that everyone's journey is different and work towards a treatment approach that feels meaningful and achievable for each individual.

"As someone who has struggled with anxiety and depression throughout their life, I understand how crippling they can feel but how powerful it is to learn new skills to take control back into our lives."
Why did you decide to become a counselor or psychiatric provider?
I chose to become a counselor because of experiences and exposure I had in my own life. I grew up with my Nana, Aunt and Uncle doing foster care and saw the impact they each had, but also the impact my family had in each child that came into our family. Seeing the impacts we could all make, I always knew I wanted to help people in any capacity I could. I think everyone deserves a safe place and at least one person in their corner.
What types of clients do you work best with?
I have experience working with a variety of clients and their mental health challenges that I feel like I could work well with mostly everyone. I tend to do better with early adulthood ages and the geriatric population. Wether it being anxiety or depression someone may be facing.
What's one thing you wish all clients knew about therapy, mental health, or the healing process?
The healing process is not linear and it is okay to not feel comfortable at the start of this journey. Therapy can be intimidating and it is a collaborative approach between both the therapist and client.
What can clients expect in their first session with you and in the early stages of therapy?
Clients can expect rapport building and taking the time to truly understand their therapeutic goals and exploring how we can work together to achieve these goals.
How do you tailor therapy to meet each client’s unique needs?
I think by understanding every person and their journeys are different. Understanding that certain coping strategies for example, you might have to get creative so it is something a client feels more comfortable with.
