About Shannon
I am a licensed specialist clinical social worker (LSCSW) with 30 years of experience in mental health and child welfare. I work with individuals and families of diverse backgrounds and all ages in both rural and urban communities. My specialties include trauma, loss and grief, early childhood mental health, child abuse and neglect, family relationships, and foster care and adoption.
I earned my master’s degree in social work from the University of Kansas. My approach is strengths-based and trauma-informed, incorporating cognitive behavioral therapy, play therapy, and family systems therapy. I help clients understand how trauma can affect their sense of self and relationships while building healthier coping strategies.
Seeking therapy is a courageous first step toward change. I strive to create a supportive, collaborative space where you feel heard and understood as we work together toward healing, personal growth, and the life you want to build. When you are ready, I look forward to taking the first step together.

"As one who has experienced traumatic life changes and transitions, I have an authentic understanding of how painful and often unexpected circumstances impact us and how we can build new life skills that empower and heal us."

Why did you decide to become a counselor or psychiatric provider?
It's always been in my nature to want to understand others' unique experiences that shape them. I realize I cannot change the world, but I'm committed to helping and supporting people in my community, offering an environment where clients feel valued, empowered, and able to create the lives they want regardless of their past experiences. It's a gift to be able to walk alongside a client as they realize their potential and grow into what they want to be.
What types of clients do you work best with?
I like to work with clients that are straightforward and even challenging to me. I'm open to learning from each client.
What's one thing you wish all clients knew about therapy, mental health, or the healing process?
We are all in this together and you are not alone. Seeking help through therapy is a strength and it takes great courage to be vulnerable and open yourself up to another person.
What can clients expect in their first session with you and in the early stages of therapy?
I am an engaged listener and will be asking direct questions to clarify not only your strengths but what you would like to get out of therapy. We will work on developing trust and the therapeutic relationship that is necessary for change.
How do you tailor therapy to meet each client’s unique needs?
I realize that no two people have the same responses even if they've had similar life experiences. I will seek to genuinely understand each client's strengths and needs. We will collaboratively develop a plan and I will utilize the therapeutic approach that best meets the client's needs.
