About Terri
I'm Terri Tyson, a licensed clinical professional counselor (LCPC) in the state of Illinois with 18 years of experience helping people navigate life’s challenges with resilience and faith. My work is guided by compassion, curiosity, and the belief that healing begins when we feel seen and understood. In addition to counseling, I serve as a hospital chaplain, walking with people through crisis, loss, and transformation. These experiences deepen my understanding of how purpose and hope can coexist even in difficult seasons of life.
I hold a Master of Science degree in Education with a concentration in Community Counseling from the University of Dayton. I also hold a Master of Divinity degree in Pastoral Counseling from United Theological Seminary. My approach is to draw on evidence-based practices and spiritual insight to promote self-discovery, and personal growth.
I meet clients where they are, without judgment or expectation, creating a space for honest reflection and forward movement. The goal is to provide the tools and support needed to reach meaningful outcomes. Together, we’ll explore how to walk this journey at your pace, building confidence and clarity along the way.

"As a person who has walked with people through life’s challenges, I empathize and understand that sometimes we just need to stop and breathe before we can move forward."

Why did you decide to become a counselor or psychiatric provider?
I was always the friend that friends came to during hard times. I felt my life was leading me in this direction and I wanted to use these natural skills to help others in a more deliberate manner.
What types of clients do you work best with?
I work best with clients who have recognized they are at a turning point in their lives but are stuck as to what the next steps need to be.
What's one thing you wish all clients knew about therapy, mental health, or the healing process?
The one thing I always tell my clients is that they actually come in with the answers. I am just there to help them discover what is already inside of themselves. We hold vast resources within ourselves that, for whatever reason, are masked. We will gently remove the mask together and find the beauty and strength already within.
What can clients expect in their first session with you and in the early stages of therapy?
Our first couple of sessions will be building trust and rapport. It is important for me to know your history and the “why” of what brought you to my office. From there, together we will develop a plan of what we will work towards, your goals, and your dreams.
What personal experiences or values inform your practice as a therapist/provider?
Having both experienced and witnessed this over the years, I personally believe that grief and loss are at the heart of what holds all of us back. When we can begin to understand what these feelings are, we can begin to move forward.
How do you tailor therapy to meet each client’s unique needs?
Each person is unique and will not fit into any mold. My approach will be guided by the life experiences you present and the goals you desire.
What is something about you non-professionally that you think your clients would find interesting?
I love to travel. I have been to more than 20 countries. I hold a musical theater degree and used to work on cruise ships as onboard entertainment. I also performed in theater and bands throughout the US. I am a huge animal lover and have rarely been without some sort of pet my whole life. These have included creatures from dogs and cats to flying squirrels and ferrets.
