Get to know Sally
Why did you decide to become a counselor or psychiatric provider?
I decided to become a social worker when I was hospitalized as a child for rheumatic fever and a social worker was assigned to me. I noticed how impactful that relationship was and how it helped me cope with a very difficult situation. Since then I have worked in a variety of settings but enjoy providing therapeutic counseling the best. Through working with individuals and couples I have been privileged to assist with change. Lives and relationships can change for the better. Hope can be restored with effort and hard work.
What types of clients do you work with best?
I like working with individuals and couples who are experiencing difficulties in their relationships.
What type of clients are you most excited to work with?
I am excited to work with individuals and couples who are willing to put in the work to have a more rewarding life. Therapy is not easy but I still believe with some self awareness and a willingness to change people can feel better about themselves and others.
What's one thing you wish all clients knew?
I wish all clients knew how powerful their brains are and how thoughts can either negatively or positively impact their lives. By changing one's thoughts, they can change their behavior. In therapy, we look at what our assumptions are, do some reality testing and figure out where we want to go.
Why did you choose to practice at Thriveworks?
I chose to practice at Thriveworks because they are very client oriented and offer high quality services in a colorful positive setting.
What inspires you?
What inspires me is being present when positive change is occurring and knowing I was a part of that process.
What can clients expect in their first session with you?
Clients can expect a compassionate and reassuring experience where background information is gathered and a discussion of goals to be met are initially looked at.
What do you want to accomplish with an individual in their first session?
I would like the first session to be where rapport is working to be established and the clients or clients feel comfortable. Also acknowledging that therapy is not easy but can be very rewarding.
What should clients know about you before scheduling a first session?
What clients should know about me before scheduling a first session is that I will work hard to understand you and how I can help you get want YOU want out of therapy I am reassuring but direct and honest.
What do you do for fun/on your time off?
I enjoy a variety of things. Kayaking and being outside are some of them. I enjoy theatre and have been in various community theatre productions.
What's one thing about you that defines you (non-professional)?
I think being honest and direct with people defines me.
