About Kelly
Kelly Long is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with over 20 years of dedicated experience. She specializes in supporting adults and seniors navigating challenges such as depression, anxiety, parenting, neurodivergent family dynamics, blended families, postpartum issues, grief, and post-COVID transitions. Kelly is passionate about helping individuals identify their strengths and move toward positive change. She welcomes the opportunity to walk alongside clients on their unique journeys.
Kelly earned her Master’s in Social Work from the University of Illinois. She has experience in crisis intervention, Employee Assistance Programs, and school social work. Her clinical methods include CBT, solution-focused therapy, and strength-based therapy, meeting clients where they are emotionally and mentally.
Kelly believes in the power of connection and healing. She meets clients with compassion and a client-centered mindset, working to empower them through life’s challenges. Her goal is to support individuals in building resilience and uncovering their strengths for lasting change.

Why did you decide to become a counselor or psychiatric provider?
I chose to become a counselor due to my passion to help others navigate their life challenges, improve their well-being, while being a part of their transitional growth.
What types of clients do you work with best?
I work best with clients who are willing to show up for themselves, even on the very challenging days. My ability to guide and inspire is a strength of mine.
What type of clients are you most excited to work with?
I am most excited to work with clients who are facing obstacles related to anxiety and depression and take pride in helping them overcome barriers.
What's one thing you wish all clients knew?
I wish clients could see their strengths and capabilities as much as I can. Often what one sees in the mirror view can be different then the on-looker.
Why did you choose to practice at Thriveworks?
I chose to practice at Thriveworks due to their mission and compassion for the client and counselor. The supportive work life balance approach has been noted.
What inspires you?
I am most inspired by clients that have "ah-ha," moments in counseling and start to feel the improvements of the counseling work they have done.
What can clients expect in their first session with you?
During the first session, clients can expect a meet and greet session with time to share interpersonal treatment plan goals.
What do you want to accomplish with an individual in their first session?
I would like the client to feel heard and empowered with the comfort and validation to continue future self improvement sessions.
What should clients know about you before scheduling a first session?
I take pride in my ability to meet the client where they are at and know the first step of showing up for yourself can be the most challenging. My unwavering support will be waiting to greet you on your journey of self improvement.
What do you do for fun/on your time off?
I enjoy biking, the outdoors, camping with my family, beach vacations and attending sporting events.
What's one thing about you that defines you (non-professional)?
I value honesty and have always been known as someone who is easily approachable.
