About Furrunnecia

I'm Furrunnecia (Feronica) Newberry, Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor since 2018. I've been an active therapist since 2013. I have a history of working with complex trauma in marginalized youth and have carried that focus throughout my career across the adulthood life span, particularly those who experienced complex trauma due to family dynamics. If you relate to childhood adverse experiences, difficult life transitions during formative ages, struggles with attachment or maintaining healthy relationships, you may be a good fit for long-term Relational therapy to improve interpersonal relationships and achieve personal goals.

With Relational Therapy as the backbone of my approach, I collaborate with you to develop attainable and transformative goals. The therapeutic relationship demonstrates a supportive connection to explore difficult interpersonal interactions and learn healthy responses. Use of skills outside session is evidence of growth and healing. I am here to support you.

If you are seeking healing and growth that comes from within, growth that could change how you interact with others and yourself, I invite you to take the next step forward. Healing work is personal, but it doesn't have to be done alone at all. If you feel truly ready to begin this journey of change and self-discovery, please schedule an appointment with me.

Get to know Furrunnecia

Why did you decide to become a counselor or psychiatric provider?

I once needed someone like me (now counselor), and I didn't know I could actual have that.

What types of clients do you work best with?

Clients that are willing to be impressionable to the process and invest in the work that takes place outside the session (i.e. homework, reflection, redirecting).

What's one thing you wish all clients knew about therapy, mental health, or the healing process?

You do not need an immediate problem or talking point to start therapy, just the desire to participate.

What can clients expect in their first session with you and in the early stages of therapy?

Review and confirm consent to participate in services and the client expectations for services. Establish plans for how to address any barriers to services (contact information). Open the floor for clients presenting concern, or exploring clients history of therapy that they would like to follow through with. Collecting any relevant family history, & discussing assessment tools. Identify at least one goal for therapy services.

What personal experiences or values inform your practice as a therapist/provider?

I believe in everyone's ability to evolve/improve/change with the proper supports in place.

How do you tailor therapy to meet each client’s unique needs?

I like to inquire about past therapy approaches that were helpful and offer the client options about how to approach each session.
