Get to know Dr Christina

Why did you decide to become a counselor?

My decision to pursue counseling was deeply influenced by my personal experiences. Through understanding how the mind functions, I gained the ability to regain control over my life. This journey began in my teenage years and has continued to be a source of fascination and learning. I am passionate about sharing this knowledge with others, empowering them to take control of their lives and live to their fullest potential.

What types of clients do you work with best?

I work with individuals experiencing high levels of anxiety and stress, particularly in relation to major life transitions. These clients often struggle with decision-making and may feel stuck or dissatisfied with their current life situation. Additionally, I specialize in supporting neurodivergent individuals and those who engage in the kink lifestyle, providing a safe, non-judgmental space for them to explore their identities and challenges. My goal is to help all clients navigate these difficulties and create meaningful, transformative changes in their lives.

What type of clients are you most excited to work with?

I am especially excited to work with individuals who are looking to make meaningful, positive changes in their lives. This includes clients who are motivated to better understand their thoughts and behaviors, and who are interested in exploring the factors that have been holding them back. I am particularly passionate about working with neurodivergent individuals and those in the kink community, as they often face unique challenges and may benefit from a tailored, open-minded approach. I strive to help these clients overcome barriers and reach their fullest potential.

What's one thing you wish all clients knew?

It is important to recognize that everyone experiences stress and anxiety, but how these emotions are managed makes all the difference in achieving personal growth and success. Instead of aiming to eliminate these feelings, learning to live with and manage them effectively is crucial for long-term progress and development.

Why did you choose to practice at Thriveworks?

Throughout my career, I have been involved with telehealth services and have witnessed the numerous benefits of this modality. I chose to practice at Thriveworks after hearing positive feedback from fellow clinicians about the supportive environment and the efficient scheduling process, both of which align with my values of providing accessible and client-centered care.

What inspires you?

I am inspired by the endless possibilities that life offers. The belief that if one approach does not work, there are always alternative paths to explore, drives my passion for problem-solving and personal growth.

What can clients expect in their first session with you?

In our first session, clients can expect to establish a strong foundation of trust and safety. We will discuss their primary concerns, identify triggers, and begin to explore their goals for therapy. I will also share my therapeutic approach and ensure that we align on what they need from me moving forward.

What do you want to accomplish with an individual in their first session?

In the initial session, my primary goal is to help the client feel safe, heard, and hopeful. I aim to provide clarity on the therapeutic process, establish a starting point, and set a clear plan for future sessions.

What should clients know about you before scheduling a first counseling session?

Clients should understand that I work at a pace that is comfortable for them, while also gently challenging them when behaviors or thought patterns are inconsistent with their established goals. I use a flexible, individualized approach to therapy, tailoring my techniques to suit each client’s unique needs. Humor is also welcomed and encouraged in our sessions, as it can be a helpful tool in the therapeutic process.

What's one thing about you that defines you (non-professional)?

I am deeply passionate about learning and enjoy exploring a wide range of topics. Whether through reading or watching documentaries, I am constantly seeking new knowledge and am always fascinated by obscure and unconventional subjects.
