Why did you decide to become a counselor or psychiatric provider?
My decision to become a counselor is rooted in my deep and genuine understanding of trauma and life's unexpected challenges. I have learned through experience that resilience is not an innate trait, but a journey built through vulnerability and support. This perspective ignited a passion in me to become a compassionate guide for others who are navigating their own "curveballs." My goal is to create a safe space for people to process their experiences, discover their inner strength, and find healing on their own terms.
What types of clients do you work best with?
I work best with clients who are ready to engage in the process of self-exploration and healing. I've found that my strength lies in helping people who have been knocked off course by life's unexpected events. They may feel overwhelmed, but they still have a desire to understand their past and build a more resilient future. The therapeutic relationship thrives when there is a mutual commitment to doing that difficult but rewarding work.
What's one thing you wish all clients knew about therapy, mental health, or the healing process?
The one thing I wish all clients knew is that healing is not about a therapist 'fixing' you; it's a collaborative process where the most profound change happens because of the work you do outside our sessions.
What can clients expect in their first session with you and in the early stages of therapy?
In our first session, you can expect a warm welcome and an open, non-judgmental space. The initial meeting is a get-to-know-you conversation and a chance for us to determine if we are a good fit for working together. I'll begin by asking you what brought you to therapy at this time and what you hope to gain from our work. You won't be expected to share everything right away, but you'll have the space to start your story at your own pace. I may ask questions about your past experiences and current challenges to get a holistic view of your situation. This initial assessment is about gathering the information needed to start shaping a path forward together. We will also cover some logistical and foundational items, such as confidentiality, my approach to therapy, and answer any questions you have about the process. The goal is for you to leave our first session feeling heard, supported, and with a clearer sense of the possibilities that therapy can bring. The early stages of therapy are focused on establishing our therapeutic relationship and building a solid foundation for the difficult but rewarding work ahead. This is where we deepen our collaborative commitment to your healing and exploration.
What personal experiences or values inform your practice as a therapist/provider?
My practice is deeply informed by my commitment to the values of collaboration, resilience, and personal autonomy. I believe that the therapeutic relationship is a collaborative partnership built on mutual trust and respect. I work best with clients who are ready to engage in that difficult but rewarding work of self-exploration and healing.
I've also found that my practice is shaped by my profound belief in human resilience. In my experience, even when people are knocked off course by life's unexpected events, they often still have a desire to understand their past and build a more resilient future. My role is to act as a guide, providing a supportive and non-judgmental space for that process to unfold. Ultimately, my work is driven by the value of autonomy. I believe that each individual has an inner compass, and my goal is to help clients reconnect with their own inherent strengths and self-determination. This focus on individual values and internal resources is what allows us to set meaningful, personal goals for lasting change.
How do you tailor therapy to meet each client’s unique needs?
I view the therapeutic process as a highly collaborative journey, not a standardized one. Tailoring therapy to each client begins with truly understanding their unique story, rather than focusing on a single diagnosis or set of techniques. From the very first session, my approach is centered on deep listening to learn about their experiences, preferences, and goals. This involves a comprehensive understanding, collaborative treatment plan, and flexible and responsive care.
