Why did you decide to become a counselor?
For as long as I can remember, I wanted to be in a career that would help people directly. I found myself to be most passionate in a direct role with people as a therapist.
What types of clients do you work with best?
I love working with clients who are willing to explore themselves both within sessions and between sessions. I often give clients things to do or think about between sessions.
What type of clients are you most excited to work with?
Anyone who walks through my door. I know that sounds cheesy. I love social work because you can work with so many different people and challenges. I find it exciting that I do not have to limit myself to one type of challenge or group of clients.
What's one thing you wish all clients knew?
Making the first call/appointment to be in therapy is a hard decision to make and the first huge step. And that is when the commitment to yourself and your treatment really starts.
What inspires you?
People who are brave and stepping out of their comfort zone. It is scary to do something new, but stepping out of your comfort zone can show oneself what they are really capable of achieving. It can also teach your child/children or others not to just play it safe!
What can clients expect in their first session with you?
Our first session is a time to gather information and for me to understand what brings you into therapy at this time. As well as to discuss what are your goals/expectations of therapy. This is also a time that you can ask me questions to ensure that you feel comfortable with me as your therapist.
What should clients know about you before scheduling a first counseling session?
That there is no judgement as to what brings them into therapy. Everyone needs help at sometime in their life.
What do you do for fun/on your time off?
I love being with my family. I love to bike ride and go to the park and take my puppies for walks. (My puppies are grown dogs but they will always be puppies to me!) I love to go fishing with my son. And can be fishing for hours. (I am hoping this will be the year he can bait his own hook and take the hook out of the fish's mouth!) I love to bake with my daughter. (She has her own baking style and I am just her Sous Chef!)
