About Colten

I was raised in Central Idaho and later attended college on the east coast where I earned my Bachelor of Science and Master of Social Work. Throughout my career, I have worked in hospital and outpatient settings, with experience focused on crisis intervention, threat assessment and helping people navigate life challenges. I have developed a strong interest working with older adults around aging, grief and loss and life transitions. Influenced by Viktor Frankl, I believe that even when we cannot choose our circumstances we can choose how we respond, reconnect with what matters and find meaning. ,

My approach is collaborative and grounded in meaning, values and personal responsibility. I help individuals explore meaning, recognize their freedom to choose their response to circumstances and find greater clarity, resilience and direction.

Life can sometimes leave us feeling uncertain about what comes next. I offer thoughtful, nonjudgemental space to slow down, make sense of what you're experiencing and consider what comes next.

Get to know Colten

Why did you decide to become a counselor or psychiatric provider?

I became a Social Worker because I believe people are more than the circumstances they're experiencing. I've found meaning in helping people navigate difficult moments, gain perspective and recognize their ability to make choices about how they move forward.

What types of clients do you work best with?

With adults navigating life transitions, grief and loss, relationship or interpersonal conflict. I especially value working with people who are seeking perspective, clarity and a meaningful way forward.

What's one thing you wish all clients knew about therapy, mental health, or the healing process?

I believe therapy is not about fixing a person or telling them how to live. It is a collaborative process of understanding what you're experiencing, exploring what matters to you and finding a way forward.

What can clients expect in their first session with you and in the early stages of therapy?

Our first session is an opportunity to slow down, talk openly about what brings you to therapy and begin understanding what you need. Early sessions are focused on building trust, gaining perspective and developing a direction for our work together.

What personal experiences or values inform your practice as a therapist/provider?

My practice is shaped by years of working with people during some of life's most difficult moments including crisis, loss, uncertainty and major transitions. Those experiences reinforced my belief in the importance of human connection and personal responsibility.

How do you tailor therapy to meet each client’s unique needs?

I believe therapy should fit the person, not the other way around. Some people may need practical strategies, while others may need space to process, gain perspective and explore meaning and direction.
