Get to know Melissa

Why did you decide to become a counselor or psychiatric provider?

I chose to become a counselor because of my own life experiences navigating challenges with anxiety, self-doubt, and the ups and downs that come with being human. I know how important it is to have someone who will listen without judgment and walk alongside you when life feels heavy. Those experiences sparked a deep desire in me to help others feel supported, understood, and empowered to become the best version of themselves. Counseling gives me the opportunity to turn my challenges into purpose, and I feel honored to support others as they discover their own strength, resilience, and hope.

What types of clients do you work with best?

I work best with clients who are ready to explore their inner world with honesty and curiosity, and who have a genuine desire to make positive changes in their lives. Therapy is a process that takes time, openness, and trust, and II find the most meaningful progress happens when clients are willing to lean into that process-even when it feels uncomfortable.

What type of clients are you most excited to work with?

I am most excited to work with clients who are open to self-discovery, motivated to make meaningful changes, and willing to trust the process of therapy as we work together toward growth and healing.

What's one thing you wish all clients knew?

One thing I wish every client knew is that when you step into my virtual office, you are entering a space where you will be welcomed exactly as you are. I approach each person with openness, compassion, and without judgment, because I believe everyone deserves to feel safe and accepted while sharing their story. My goal is for each client to feel comfortable being their authentic self, knowing they will be met with respect, warmth, and genuine care.

Why did you choose to practice at Thriveworks?

I chose to work at Thriveworks because it allows me the opportunity to connect with a wide variety of individuals, each with their own unique stories, strengths, and challenges. Thriveworks provides a supportive environment where I can offer high-quality care while helping clients move toward healing, growth, and lasting change.

What inspires you?

I am deeply inspired by the courage it takes to set and work toward personal goals, even when the path feels uncertain. Creativity also fuels and motivates me-whether it's finding new ways to approach challenges, or engaging in art and expression that bring joy and meaning to life. Most of all, I am inspired by the opportunity to help others, to witness their resilience, and to walk alongside them as they grow, heal, and discover their best selves.

What can clients expect in their first session with you?

In your first session, we'll spend time getting to know one another and creating a comfortable, welcoming space for you to share what brings you to therapy. I'll invite you to talk about your hopes, challenges, and what you'd like to gain from our work together, while also answering any questions you may have about the process. Together, we'll begin exploring your goals and identifying the steps we can talk to support your growth, so you leave the session with a sense of direction and reassurance that you don't have to walk this journey alone.

What do you want to accomplish with an individual in their first session?

In the first session, my goal is to gather information that will help us set meaningful and achievable goals for therapy. I want to understand your unique experiences, challenges, and strengths so that we can create a plan tailored to your needs. I would like to begin building a collaborative, trusting relationship where your voice is heard and valued.

What should clients know about you before scheduling a first session?

Before scheduling your first session, I want you to know that I approach every client with compassion, an open mind, and a deep dedication to supporting your growth. I believe in creating a safe, nonjudgmental space where you can explore your thoughts and feelings, and I am committed to walking alongside you as you work toward your goals and navigate life's challenges.

What do you do for fun/on your time off?

Outside of work, I enjoy spending quality time with my family and children, cherishing those moments that bring connection and joy. I also love expressing myself creatively through art, whether it's painting, coloring, or macrame, as it allows me to relax and recharge. Time with close friends is another source of happiness for me-sharing laughter, conversation, and support helps me feel balanced and inspired in both life and work.

What's one thing about you that defines you (non-professional)?

One thing that defines me outside of work is my dedication to my family. I cherish the time spent nurturing relationships and creating meaningful memories with my children and loved ones.
