Why did you decide to become a counselor?
I decided to become a counselor in order to provide others with the support needed in various stages of life. I was not cultured to talk about my emotions or express them. This later became a hinderance but it also motivated me to learn how to better express those emotions. I enjoy being a sounding board for clients and consider it to be a privilege.
What types of clients do you work with best?
I tend to work best with clients who are interested in utilizing the therapeutic space to meet their desired goal. I believe therapy can help educate and redirect if the client is willing to participate.
What type of clients are you most excited to work with?
As a clinician, I enjoy learning from my clients. I look forward to working with clients who are involved and invested in their treatment.
What's one thing you wish all clients knew?
The importance of self care.
Why did you choose to practice at Thriveworks?
Thriveworks support their clients and clinicians. They have tools and protocols that help with decision making and client success.
What inspires you?
Seeing clients make progress and live more fulfilling lives.
What can clients expect in their first session with you?
I utilize the initial session as a period to get to know the client and vice versa. I ask questions about family dynamics/history, habits, hobbies, current symptoms and so on. I also explore with the client why they are seeking services and discuss how to proceed.
What do you want to accomplish with an individual in their first session?
I focus on providing a nonjudgmental environment conducive to self discovery. I also utilize silence in order to encourage the client to express thoughts and feelings that might alleviate their anxiety about the first session. I then complete an intake assessment and assist the client with identifying their goals for treatment.
What should clients know about you before scheduling a first counseling session?
All clients are welcome and are capable of achieving their goals.
What do you do for fun/on your time off?
I enjoy acrylic abstract painting in my free time. I also love to cook and hike (when it's not a thousand degrees outside!)
What's one thing about you that defines you (non-professional)?
My ability to treat everyone the same regardless of their race, sex, cultural background or status.
