About Shira Preiser
I am a licensed master social worker (LMSW) with 3 years of experience supporting clients through life transitions, emotional challenges, and identity exploration. My background in education and theater informs a creative, relational approach to therapy that values connection, meaning, and personal growth. I work with individuals navigating anxiety, depression, loneliness, communication challenges, and neurodivergence, and I strive to meet clients where they are on their unique and evolving journeys.
I earned my master’s degree in social work from Florida State University. My approach is client-centered and strengths-based, grounded in the belief that clients are the experts of their lives. I integrate creative and experiential techniques, including narrative exploration, values-based work, and expressive tools to support insight and self-compassion.
Finding the right therapist can feel overwhelming, and taking the first step takes courage. I aim to create a warm, collaborative space where you feel heard, respected, and supported as we explore life’s big questions together. If you feel we may be a good fit, I invite you to reach out and schedule an appointment.

"As a queer neurodivergent person, I'm well-equipped to help clients build self-compassion and practice self-advocacy."

Why did you decide to become a counselor or psychiatric provider?
I initially became interested in therapy while I was working in early childhood education. While helping young children learn to regulate their emotions, I realized that I wanted to be able to offer this kind of support to a wider range of people.
What types of clients do you work best with?
I work best with clients interested in bigger-picture work. A strong therapeutic relationship can take time to develop but is so rewarding when it has space to grow. Additionally, as a member of the queer and neurodivergent communities, I am proud to offer support based in lived experience.
What's one thing you wish all clients knew about therapy, mental health, or the healing process?
Healing is often seen as painful or scary. It's true that there are aspects of this journey that are difficult, but therapy is a place for all emotions. Sessions can include laughter, joy, and creativity too.
What can clients expect in their first session with you and in the early stages of therapy?
The first session is typically focused on the circumstances that brought the client into therapy. We'll work together to envision of what you'd like to get out of therapy, and guideposts to tell us we're getting there. After that, the first month or two tends to focus on the ways those challenges show up in everyday life and how you navigate them.
What personal experiences or values inform your practice as a therapist/provider?
As part of my background in education I studied models of learning that center the student, such as the Reggio Emilia and Montessori approaches. This laid the foundation for how I approach the therapeutic relationship: as one of two equals, working together to build a space where the client can learn and grow.
How do you tailor therapy to meet each client’s unique needs?
One metaphor I like to think of is that of an Uber driver: I know many potential routes to take, but only you can set the destination. The client defines the goals of therapy, and adjusts them over time. I can offer tools to help a client clarify their ideas, or resources for when they get stuck, but only in ways that support the client's vision.
