About Melissa
Melissa Bradford is a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) who has 9 years of experience. She specializes in working with children & adolescents (4-18 years old) and adults who present with concerns such as inattention, depression, anxiety, behavior problems, parenting challenges, interpersonal relationships, emotional dysregulation, trauma, and anger management. Melissa has a previous history of working as a therapist providing services as an APEX school-based therapist.
Melissa received her Master’s in Clinical Mental Health from Mercer University. Melissa utilizes a variety of clinical approaches that are targeted to client needs including cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), playful activities, client-centered approaches, mindfulness-based methods, family therapy, and trauma-focused cognitive behavioral therapy (TF-CBT).
Melissa’s approach to therapy is rooted in authenticity and her goal is to assist each client to ensure that they can achieve success in their mental health recovery. She believes with support, perseverance, and a positive mindset, change is possible — which creates the ability to overcome life’s challenges.

Why did you decide to become a counselor or psychiatric provider?
I wanted to help others develop skills to navigate life's challenges in a healthy way and learn to find their voice, be able to advocate for their needs rather than stay silent.
What types of clients do you work with best?
I partner well with clients who are willing to show up and do the work, as the therapeutic alliance is built on this principle.
What type of clients are you most excited to work with?
I am excited to work with the clients who are showing up, making efforts toward their mental health recovery goals in spite of the obstacles they face and continue to have a positive outlook.
What's one thing you wish all clients knew?
Our mind set and they way we view things does impact how we go about making a lot of decisions in our day to day lives.
Why did you choose to practice at Thriveworks?
One of my dearest friends shared positive feedback about their time as an current employee, as well as my desire to find a new position.

What can clients expect in their first session with you?
To encounter a safe non-judgmental space to allow for rapport building.
What do you want to accomplish with an individual in their first session?
An opportunity to build rapport and allow the client to feel safe.

What do you do for fun/on your time off?
I create greeting cards, write/journal, listen to music, spend time with family.
