Why did you decide to become a counselor?
I have always been an empathic, non judgmental, accepting and caring individual. Others tend to sense this in me and soon feel safe and comfortable entrusting me with their personal struggles. I remain humbled by this and find my greatest joy in helping others. Counseling allows me to have a career that I am passionate about.
What types of clients do you work with best?
I recall how challenging preteen and teenage years were for most everyone. It's a time of self discovery and finding your true unique identify. Transitioning into young adulthood and becoming independent comes with its own set of challenges as well. I connect and work well with children, adolescents, and young adults. I am far from intimidating. Rather, I am warm and welcoming, These age groups keep me young and in the know.
What type of clients are you most excited to work with?
Working with clients that are motivated to make positive changes and invested in the counseling process are exciting to work with.
What’s one thing you wish all clients knew?
Clients trivialize their issues at times, feeling others have far bigger challenges and/or struggles than them. I wish all clients knew that struggles aren't a competition or to be compared. Everyone has their own personal story and everyone's struggles are important.
Why did you choose to practice at Thriveworks?
Thriveworks values all of their clientele and employees. They are invested in their clients receiving quality care by qualified providers. They provide their counselors with a variety of supports and opportunities for continued professional growth.
What inspires you?
I am inspired by people's bravery, courage, determination and fight to never give up despite the challenge or circumstance.
What can clients expect in their first session with you?
Our first session together is primarily an information gathering session. Once I've introduced myself, I will need to ensure that you signed, completed, and understood all of Thiveworks' required documents and policies before moving forward. I will be glad to answer any of your questions or concerns you may have at that time. I'll ask that you briefly share what brings you to counseling at this time and what you are hoping to achieve through the counseling process. Next, I will need to ask you a standard set of questions, some of which may or may not apply to you. Your responses help me gain insight into some of your past and present. Your treatment plan we will create will be based on your responses, reason(s) for seeking counseling, and goals you would like to achieve through the counseling process. We will begin to address your goals during your next session. Throughout the counseling process, I will provide guidance and support in a nonjudgmental and accepting environment as you work to achieve your goals.
What do you want to accomplish with an individual in their first session?
During the first session, I want to begin building a rapport with my clients while assuring them that they are in a safe, welcoming, nonjudgmental and accepting environment. I would like for them to know a little about myself, my counseling approach, and what to expect in our following sessions as they work to achieve their goals. I want my clients to feel hopeful, encouraged, and supported by the end of their first session.
What do you do for fun/on your time off?
I love to binge watch Netflix with my dogs.
What’s one thing about you that defines you (non-professional)?
I am true to myself and don't try to be someone that I'm not.
