About Lateela
Lateela Burns is a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) who has 17 years of experience as a therapist and case manager. Lateela works with adult and senior adult clients who struggle with depression, anxiety, stress-related illnesses, chronic pain or chronic health issues, self-esteem issues, and other types of crises. She has also assisted clients experiencing relationship issues, burnout, caregiver strain, and grief.
Lateela completed her Bachelor of Science (BS) in Psychology at Xavier University of Louisiana, and her Master of Science (MS) in Professional Counseling at Georgia State University. She implements cognitive behavioral, solution-focused, and strength-based techniques in order to bring awareness to a client's thought process as it relates to their emotions, self-esteem, overall wellbeing, and ability to overcome crisis.
Lateela aims to serve as a guide to clients as they navigate the highs and lows of life. She believes that there are many lessons to learn about ourselves as we focus on recognizing and building our strengths, and embrace positive change in order to become our best self.

Get to know Lateela
Why did you decide to become a counselor?
I became a counselor in order to be a support to others as I would want for myself as I continue on my journey to becoming my best self. I hope to provide a safe space where clients can speak freely, be heard, challenge themselves, and grow.
What types of clients do you work with best?
I work best with clients who are motivated for change.
What type of clients are you most excited to work with?
I am excited to work with all of my clients because I know from personal experience that it is not always easy to ask for help.
What’s one thing you wish all clients knew?
I wish that all clients knew that there is no such thing as failure as long as we try.
Why did you choose to practice at Thriveworks?
I chose to practice at Thriveworks because they gave me the opportunity to work in a private practice with a positive environment, and support when needed.
What inspires you?
I am inspired by several women in my life that have shown me what true success and living with purpose look like. They've shown me what it means to be intentional and to define one's own path in life.
What can clients expect in their first session with you?
In our first session, I will complete what's called an intake assessment to get your personal background/history. We also talk about treatment goals and expectations. I also encourage clients to ask questions about me so that we are able to get to know each other and determine if I'm able to meet your needs.
What do you want to accomplish with an individual in their first session?
In the first session, I hope to provide the client with a sense of comfort and support so that they feel that they are taking the proper steps in treatment.
What do you do for fun/on your time off?
I like to spend time with family, friends, and my dog. I also like to watch a lot of true crime shows.

I am defined by my genuine compassion and empathy for others.
