Why did you decide to become a counselor or psychiatric provider?

I became a counselor because I love helping people and believe it is in my DNA. I am passionate about supporting others in their journey to success, understanding that the world is already hard enough as it is, and that a kind hand or heart is needed now more than ever. Additionally, I wanted to be a safe space for any person of color, especially within the African American community.

What types of clients do you work with best?

The type of clients I work with best are those who believe in change. They may not know if they want it or are ready for it, but they do believe in changing and evolving. Therapy is a process that involves change and adaptation, and even though change is hard and scary, as long as I have a client who believes in change, we can accomplish their goals. As General Iroh wisely said, "Sometimes life is like this dark tunnel. You can’t always see the light at the end of the tunnel, but if you just keep moving you will come to a better place."

What type of clients are you most excited to work with?

I am most excited to work with everyone. If you need any help or assistance or have a goal in mind, I am eager to help and work with you to achieve any goal.

What's one thing you wish all clients knew?

There are three things I wish all clients knew. First, therapy is not just for serious mental health issues but can serve as a mental check-up. Just as you go to the doctor for yearly physicals, it's important to have regular check-ups for your mind. Second, healing takes time, it can take weeks, months, or even years, and there is nothing wrong with taking baby steps. Lastly, finding a good therapist is like dating; it's important to find the one who best fits you.

Why did you choose to practice at Thriveworks?

I chose to work at Thriveworks because it aligns with my commitment to providing high-quality mental health care and offers a supportive environment focused on client well-being and continuous professional development. Thriveworks' commitment to making mental health care accessible and its diverse range of services resonates with my desire to help a wide variety of clients achieve their goals. Additionally, Thriveworks gives me the freedom to try different counseling approaches, allowing me to tailor my methods to best meet each client's unique needs.

What inspires you?

What inspires me is the resilience of human beings. Despite many odds, trauma, and personal stories, people around the world continue to march on. They may need a helping hand every now and then, but that's okay. I have seen clients come in from a dark place, and over time, due to their resilience and desire to change, they complete a 180. Witnessing their transformation is incredibly rewarding. Their journeys remind me that, no matter how challenging life can be, the human spirit's capacity for growth and healing is boundless. This resilience is a testament to the strength and courage within each person, and it fuels my passion for helping others navigate their paths to well-being.

What can clients expect in their first session with you?

Clients can expect that during our first session, building rapport will be my primary objective. You can anticipate an open and relaxing experience where we focus on getting to know each other. This initial session is designed to create a comfortable and trusting environment, allowing you to share your thoughts and feelings freely.

What do you want to accomplish with an individual in their first session?

During the first session, my primary objective is to build rapport and create an open and relaxing environment where we can get to know each other. I hope to understand your goals and what you are seeking therapy for. By the end of our first meeting, I aim to have a clear understanding of your needs and how we can work together to achieve your goals.

What should clients know about you before scheduling a first session?

Before scheduling a first session, clients should know that I am open and honest with every client. I am supportive but not afraid to gently challenge you when necessary to help you grow. I love music and enjoy helping clients connect to their emotions through any kind of creative outlet.

What do you do for fun/on your time off?

In my free time, I love dancing and listening to music. I'm a big anime fan and enjoy connecting with nature through activities like hiking and spending time near water. During my time off, you'll often find me exploring local food spots and trying new foods and entrees. I also love to cook and experiment with new recipes.

What's one thing about you that defines you (non-professional)?

One thing that defines me is my love for exploring new experiences and bringing joy into my life through laughter. Whether it's dancing, listening to music, immersing myself in anime, hiking in nature, or trying out new foods and recipes, I find fulfillment in creativity and adventure. As Uncle Iroh wisely said, "Life happens wherever you are, whether you make it or not." This passion for exploration and laughter deeply enriches my life and allows me to connect with others in meaningful ways.
