She was great. I have hopes that she can help me learn coping mechanisms and how to deal with my emotions without lashing out. I wasn't to positive about the whole meeting on zoom but maybe we can make it work.

Get to know Karen

Why did you decide to become a counselor or psychiatric provider?

I believe, as do many of my peers, that Counseling is not just a career, it is a calling. I am passionate bout what I do and am committed to offering my clients the best of me and the resources I can offer.

What types of clients do you work with best?

"Dream" clients are those individuals/couples who actively participate in therapy, are capable of personal insight, and are open to doing the work of learning and implementing the adaptive skills that facilitate change. Such clients tend to achieve their goals and attain a more profound sense of self-satisfaction and well-being more rapidly. It is a thrill to see them score those goals and achieve the win(s)!

What type of clients are you most excited to work with?

Every client is unique and presents for therapy with their individual history, needs, and skill sets. I enjoy working with anyone genuinely committed to improving their current situation and overall well-being and who are willing to allow me to join them in that journey.

What's one thing you wish all clients knew?

The client is the MVP of the therapeutic team. I am here to support you and cheer you on to achieving your goals.

Why did you choose to practice at Thriveworks?

Thriveworks has a terrific platform for meeting the client's needs

What can clients expect in their first session with you?

Our first session is about laying the groundwork for the therapeutic process. It begins with introductions, going over important information that every client needs to be aware of like confidentiality rules that ensure your safety (such as HIPAA), establishing rules specific to the length of sessions, and how to avoid late fees. The primary focus will then shift to you and I collaborating (joining as a team) to identify current needs/stressors (what prompted you to seek therapy at this time), really getting to know you (completing a bio-psycho-social history), and jointly identifying the steps it will take to achieve your goals (treatment plan).

What do you do for fun/on your time off?

Spend quality time with family, friends, and dogs

Reading

Swimming

Dancing

What's one thing about you that defines you (non-professional)?

Exposure to multiple cultures - growing up in the North East, where I lived among and celebrated the cultures of individuals from all over the world, and as an adult and Military Spouse, I got to move around a lot and experience new and exciting people, places and things.
