About Janet
Janet Granville is a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) who has experience working in a variety of settings and with an array of issues. She has worked in the mental health field for more than 15 years and has a strong history with children and adolescents. Janet also has experience with young to geriatric age adults. Her interest is in supporting individuals as they progress towards better lives. She has worked with individuals struggling with depression, anxiety, self-esteem issues, grief, trauma, women's issues, and life transitions.
Janet has worked as a social worker at a residential home, as a therapist in the school setting, and as a psychological intern in a hospital. Janet primarily utilizes cognitive behavioral therapy(CBT). Janet also has experience in utilizing narrative therapy, trauma-focused therapy, and solution-focused therapy.
Life presents challenges to everyone. Janet has been able to support/connect with others as they progress through their life concerns. Janet takes a kind, empathetic approach to therapy that has helped individuals face and work through their issues. Janet provides skills building and other therapeutic techniques to help the individual gain tools to address life's situations.

Why did you decide to become a counselor?
I decided to become a counselor to help individuals have a better life. Often times people have a desire to live at a level of contentment but may lack the skills, knowledge or plan to move towards their desired life.
What types of clients do you work with best?
I have a string history of working with children and adolescents. I have also worked with young adults, older adults and seniors.
What type of clients are you most excited to work with?
At this time I am most excited about working with adults.
What's one thing you wish all clients knew?
That there is a better life and they may be able to access that life by learning strategies to open the access.
Why did you choose to practice at Thriveworks?
Thriveworks seems to make sense. I am happy about the administrative support. I like the idea of managing my schedule and I am impressed with the atmosphere that the employees exude.
What inspires you?
Life, knowledge, hope, faith, connections, remaining in the present, time all inspire me.
What can clients expect in their first session with you?
Clients can expect a warm, nonjudgmental atmosphere. Clients can expect to be heard and to receive support.
What do you want to accomplish with an individual in their first session?
In the first session I would like to begin to develop rapport. I would like to know the the client expects and the reason for coming to therapy. I would like to introduce myself and give a brief background of who I am and my credentials.
What should clients know about you before scheduling a first counseling session?
Clients will know that I am open, present and caring, before scheduling the first appointment.
What do you do for fun/on your time off?
Spend time with my family, taking long walks, long baths, pedicures, manicures, listening to music, nature and quiet.
What's one thing about you that defines you (non-professional)?
I consider myself kind.
