Why did you decide to become a counselor?
When I was going through a rough time and thought that life would never get any better, I went to therapy and it changed my life. I became inspired to help others with their struggles.
What's one thing you wish all clients knew?
Come to therapy, put in the work, and it will get better. We will figure out what your values are and how to live in a way that aligns with them. You, like everyone else, are capable of change, growth, and amazing things.
What inspires you?
Marsha Linehan (the founder of DBT) was a great inspiration to me because she used her understanding of her own mental illness to come up with a therapy that has helped many people. Similarly, I am inspired by many of my clients who have used the knowledge and insights gained from their struggles and therapy to help others.
What can clients expect in their first session with you?
My clients can expect a warm environment where they can express all their thoughts and feelings without judgment as we begin to build a relationship.
What do you want to accomplish with an individual in their first session?
I want my clients to know that there is someone who is there with them to listen to whatever they want to express.
What do you do for fun/on your time off?
I enjoy writing music, playing piano, singing, and performing. I love playing with my two dogs and spending time with my friends.
What's one thing about you that defines you (non-professional)?
I am defined by my commitment to growth in multiple facets (as a counselor, as a musician, and as a lifelong learner).
