About Christopher
Chris Furter is a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) working under supervision and direction. He is passionate about helping young adults adjust to new or different lifestyles, each with their own struggles, in order to live more meaningful lives. Chris specializes in depression, anxiety, self-esteem, and life transitions using effective strategies.
Chris completed his Master of Arts (MA) in Clinical Mental Health Counseling at Liberty University. Prior to graduate school, he put his Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) in Economics to work in financial services. Chris utilizes several treatment approaches including cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), gestalt, existential, and Rogerian (person-centered) in addition to others. Chris has knowledge and exposure to multiple fields of study and their work-related outcomes, which allows him to understand the difficulties of various industries as well as career transitions after graduation. He enjoys meditating in his spare time and has used that experience to help clients struggling with depression and anxiety.
As a counselor working under direction and supervision, Chris enjoys working with people to help them feel heard and valued. Providing clients with a space where they can be their authentic selves is what he strives to do. While his path to counseling has been unorthodox, Chris realized therapy is his true calling upon finding that the most joy in his previous job came from interacting with clients to improve their lives. If you are ready to take the first step, schedule an appointment with him today!

Why did you decide to become a counselor?
I’ve always had the desire to help people in a one-on-one setting that allows the individual to fully engage in an authentic manner. The ability to create this type of environment is a unique experience and a special privilege. Through this medium of interaction, I can meet people underneath layers of social expectations, personas, and masks. This gives me a transparent view of people’s values and beliefs, so we can work towards helping them live fulfilling, meaningful lives.
What's one thing you wish all clients knew?
Therapists are not perfect, and for that matter, nobody is. We are all human, and therapists just want the best for their clients. You are not alone in what you’ve felt or experienced, and these commonalities allow therapists to become more effective at helping people with certain struggles.
Why did you choose to practice at Thriveworks?
The opportunity to work for a growing network that is actively adapting to our culture was too enticing of an opportunity to pass up. Thriveworks is on the cutting edge of counseling services with mental health blogs in addition to virtual counseling.
What inspires you?
Having the opportunity to help someone significantly improve their life every day is what motivates me to achieve my potential as a therapist.
What can clients expect in their first session with you?
The first session is an opportunity to lay the groundwork for a strong therapeutic relationship. This means I will try to understand your life in a multi-faceted manner, which includes everything from your current living situation to your goals in life, not just therapy. I personally dislike the feeling of being “evaluated,” so I try to minimize that feeling for others as much as possible. We will have an open conversation that will allow you to get to know my therapeutic style and whether you foresee us being a good fit moving forward.
What do you do for fun/on your time off?
I enjoy watching sports, hiking, working out, reading, and meditating among other things. I try to go to at least one Georgia football game every year.
