Why did you decide to become a counselor?
I became a counselor because I enjoy listening to others, and providing a light for them to find their path forward. Counseling is a partnership in which a therapist provides the safe space, and the tools and the client has the opportunity to create real change in their life.
What types of clients do you work with best?
I work best with clients who welcome honesty provided with humor and warmth. Every client is in a different state of readiness, and I am prepared to meet you where you are, but I will hold up a mirror for you to see yourself.
What type of clients are you most excited to work with?
This is a difficult question for me to answer, because I have worked with all types of clients in my career. As I have stated, I am most excited to work with motivated clients however that is as specific as I can get in a short paragraph.
What's one thing you wish all clients knew?
Therapists can’t read your mind, if something about the therapeutic process isn’t working for you, please speak up. As an experienced clinician I will never take it personally and welcome discussion to determine if an adjustment can be made or if we are not a good fit and I need to recommend that client work with a colleague of mine that might be able to better serve their needs.
Why did you choose to practice at Thriveworks?
There are many online therapy practices, but I love the opportunity to work with clients, both telehealth and in person. I have former colleagues that work at various agencies, and every single colleague that works at Thriveworks has nothing but glowing words to say about their experiences.
What inspires you?
Zen: it's a limited scarce resource in our lives. As I’ve gotten older, I have learned to protect it at all costs. I think carefully about who, and what is worth disrupting my peace of mind. It starts with learning coping skills to manage anxiety, depression, stress, difficult relationships, etc.… I am inspired to share the Zen.
What can clients expect in their first session with you?
In the first session, I will listen as you share what is most important to you and the changes that you want to see through the therapeutic process. I want to get to know you.
What do you want to accomplish with an individual in their first session?
During the first session, I want to accomplish learning about you as a client, and also giving you a general idea of how our sessions will be structured.
What should clients know about you before scheduling a first counseling session?
I’m compassionate and open minded to all. I take a nonjudgmental stance with all of my clients and encourage them to express themselves at any pace they feel comfortable.
What do you do for fun/on your time off?
Socialize with friends, create artwork, and spend time with family (and cats).
What's one thing about you that defines you (non-professional)?
My love of art, sense of humor, and honesty.
