Get to know Lolita

Why did you decide to become a counselor?

I became a counselor because of my own family experiences, which led to my desire to work with others. Past and present traumatic experiences can be redefined as a catalyst for change; I do believe people have the capacity to change their circumstance, given the tools to empower themselves.

What types of clients do you work with best?

I work best with any client that is committed and willing to seek change. Collaboration is the key to success!

What type of clients are you most excited to work with?

I love working with couples and chose the path that specializes in this area. Interpersonal Relationships can be complex, especially where couple dynamics are concerned. Couples willing to face their challenges together become the masters and not the disasters ( as Dr. Gottman describes) of their relationship.

What's one thing you wish all clients knew?

"The possibilities are endless if you take just one step forward."

Why did you choose to practice at Thriveworks?

I chose to work at Thriveworks because of the history created by the founder, the technological advances designed for clinicians who desire to work remotely and overall, the ability to help clients using a platform that is user-friendly and has a broad area of expertise from clinicians specializing in a variety of specializations.

What inspires you?

What truly inspires me is to see people become victorious over issues that have been a struggle in their lives.

What can clients expect in their first session with you?

I usually use the first session to meet and greet clients as well as identify past and presenting issues that have brought a person into counseling.

What do you want to accomplish with an individual in their first session?

A first session usually involves collaboration; what do you want to get out of therapy? What goals would you like to set so that you can develop a better understanding of the issue? How will you know you are reaching those goals?

What should clients know about you before scheduling a first counseling session?

As a therapist, I am non-judgmental, understanding, collaborative and very diverse when it comes to working with numerous issues that people experience.

What do you do for fun/on your time off?

Spending time with my husband, my family, my 3 dogs. I often stress self-care to my clients and therefore, practice this concept myself. Exercise, movies, reading, weekend getaways are just a few of my self-care routines.

What's one thing about you that defines you (non-professional)?

Intuitive.
