I’m Larry J. Smith, a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) in Florida and Connecticut with more than 20 years of social work experience. I work with families, blended families, adults, children, and adolescents—especially Black men and parents of Black and Brown boys—who are navigating anxiety, stress, anger, ADHD, behavioral concerns, family conflict, or life transitions. Together, we’ll work toward stronger emotional regulation, healthier relationships, and practical tools for everyday life.
My style is collaborative, culturally responsive, and strength-based. Drawing on cognitive behavioral strategies and a focus on the whole person, I help clients recognize patterns, build coping skills, and make changes that fit their lives. You can expect a respectful space where progress happens at your pace.
You don’t have to have everything figured out before starting therapy. Whether you’re seeking support for yourself or your child, your concerns deserve to be taken seriously. I welcome the opportunity to understand what you’re facing and work alongside you. When you’re ready, I invite you to schedule an appointment and take the next step.

"I believe meaningful change begins when people feel heard, understood, and supported—not judged. "
Why did you decide to become a counselor or psychiatric provider?
I wanted to a space for Black men and for adolescents who need a space where they are understood.
What types of clients do you work best with?
Black men navigating stress, identity, emotional isolation, and life transitions Parents and caregivers of Black and Brown boys managing behavior, school challenges, and parent-teen connection Individuals and families in blended or co-parenting systems seeking alignment and structure.
What's one thing you wish all clients knew about therapy, mental health, or the healing process?
Therapy isn’t about labeling you — it’s about slowing things down, making sense of patterns, and building emotional tools that fit your real life.
What can clients expect in their first session with you and in the early stages of therapy?
In our first few sessions, we’ll focus on building rapport, getting comfortable with one another, and creating a space where you feel safe to be yourself. We’ll explore your background, current concerns, and experiences that have shaped who you are today. As we get to know one another, we may begin identifying coping strategies and practical tools to help you manage current challenges. We’ll move at a pace that feels comfortable for you, working together to identify goals and determine what support will be most helpful.
What personal experiences or values inform your practice as a therapist/provider?
My approach is relational, culturally informed, and focused on helping you understand patterns, reduce overwhelm, and strengthen your family system.
How do you tailor therapy to meet each client’s unique needs?
No two clients or situations are the same. I tailor my treatment and pace to the needs and wishes of my patients. These are your sessions, not mine, I am just here to facilitate the journey.
