About Katrina

My name is Katrina and I am a Trauma Recovery Therapist. I have a background in post-traumatic stress, trauma recovery, behavioral change, and family dynamics. If you are someone who can identify your desire to take steps—no matter their size—toward change, or if you're simply looking for answers about why you feel the way you do regarding life's challenges, we could be a good fit. I have worked with survivors of sexual trauma and domestic violence, and I have experience with those who have experienced incarceration. I am empathetic, optimistic, realistic, and challenge-driven. My goal in therapy is to help you realize your goals.

An open and honest dynamic is important to me. I'm not intimidated by emotions and I'm willing to challenge unhelpful beliefs. Stress, depression, anxiety, compulsion, and trauma are treatable conditions given the right space, time, and resources. When you make time to care for yourself, you're taking a step that deserves recognition—it is a leap forward.

I commend you on considering a change in your life. I encourage you to ask questions and find answers that you are comfortable with. Let's sit down together and make a plan for the next part of your great adventure- leave everything on the table, whatever led you this far, listen to that and take the next step.

"I am a therapist who works with you to focus on the tougher issues in life so that there are more days in your life that will feel easier. I don't see stress as a disordered response to trauma so much as it is your body and a natural reaction to the environment it lives in. This may sound simple in theory, but by addressing stress and pressure in life, together we can find ways to identify life's glimmers- those tiny sparks of joy that allow light into our days."

Get to know Katrina

Why did you decide to become a counselor or psychiatric provider?

They say that every good therapist has a great therapist. I've benefitted many times in life by asking for guidance or support life hands me everything all at once. I want to make sure that no one ever feels like they have to stand alone in life.

What types of clients do you work best with?

I am willing to work with clients who are willing to participate in therapy. I want you to get as much out of a session as possible, so come ready to work.

What's one thing you wish all clients knew about therapy, mental health, or the healing process?

If I could give any gift, it would be to release yourself from the burden of trying to "go back to" things. To the way things were, to normal, to before something life shifting. That is an impossible task that can be paralyzing.

What can clients expect in their first session with you and in the early stages of therapy?

Clients can look forward to a first session that is full of questions. I want to know what brings someone to therapy, if they've been before, what they've tried, what works, what doesn't, what are their goals, their passions, their boundaries? What does it look for someone to have a productive session? The first session is going to feel like a lot of busy work. Then we can map a way forward.

What personal experiences or values inform your practice as a therapist/provider?

One of the biggest motivators for me in becoming a therapist is so that no one ever feels like there isn't support available. There are areas in life where I am extremely blessed, but sometimes it takes living through what you don't want to understand what you are looking for. Having a support system is vital.

How do you tailor therapy to meet each client’s unique needs?

I think that therapy should always be a unique experience. Even if the conversation is similar in theme, the outcome has the potential to be different every time. Whether that means that every session is focused on a different aspect of life, or every session is focused on one central goal- the session should be centered around the needs and wants of the client.
