I’m Jenness Jones, a Licensed Mental Health Counselor licensed in Florida and South Carolina and the founder of Grace and Mercy Counseling, LLC. I earned my master’s degree in Mental Health Counseling from Webster University in 2012. My professional background includes community mental health, correctional settings, and supporting individuals transitioning back into their communities. I work with adolescents and adults navigating anxiety, depression, childhood trauma, grief, relationship difficulties, and major life transitions. Through a compassionate approach, I provide space to feel heard and develop skills for change.

My approach is compassionate, collaborative, and trauma-informed. I use cognitive behavioral and solution-focused techniques to help clients recognize unhelpful patterns and develop coping skills. I support clients navigating anxiety, depression, childhood trauma, relationship challenges, and life transitions, with faith integrated when meaningful to you.

You may be carrying pain that has been difficult to put into words, or simply wondering where to begin. You deserve a space where you feel heard, respected, and supported. When you feel ready, I invite you to schedule an appointment so we can begin working toward the healing and growth you want for your life.

"I believe healing begins with feeling heard, and I bring compassion, faith, and respect for your unique experiences to help you navigate life’s challenges and grow with confidence."

Why did you decide to become a counselor or psychiatric provider?

I became a counselor because I wanted to help people feel heard, valued, and supported during difficult times. My faith and commitment to serving others shaped my desire to create a space where people can speak openly without fear of judgment. Throughout my career, I’ve seen how feeling understood can help people recognize their strengths and begin making meaningful changes. That continues to inspire my work today.

What types of clients do you work best with?

I work best with clients who are ready for change and willing to take an active role in their healing. My approach fits those who want to understand their emotions, explore patterns, and practice new skills. You don’t need all the answers—just an openness to working together and taking small, meaningful steps toward your goals.

What's one thing you wish all clients knew about therapy, mental health, or the healing process?

I wish every client knew that healing takes time, and progress doesn’t always happen in a straight line. Having a difficult day doesn’t erase the growth you’ve made. You don’t have to have everything figured out to begin therapy—just a willingness to show up, be curious about yourself, and take one step at a time.

What can clients expect in their first session with you and in the early stages of therapy?

In our first session, I focus on getting to know you, understanding what brought you to therapy, and learning what you hope to change. We’ll discuss your concerns, relevant history, and what feeling better would look like for you. I’ll also explain confidentiality, answer your questions, and help you feel comfortable sharing at your own pace. In the early stages, we’ll work together to identify goals, explore patterns, and develop practical coping skills that support your progress.

What personal experiences or values inform your practice as a therapist/provider?

My faith, family values, and commitment to serving others shape my work as a therapist. Working in community mental health and correctional settings has deepened my respect for each person’s experiences and ability to grow. I value compassion, honesty, and meeting people where they are. I welcome clients of all beliefs and backgrounds, and I incorporate faith only when it aligns with their preferences and goals.

How do you tailor therapy to meet each client’s unique needs?

I tailor therapy by listening to your experiences, understanding your goals, and considering your strengths, culture, values, and life circumstances. Together, we choose strategies that fit your needs and move at a pace that feels manageable. I regularly invite your feedback and adjust our approach as we learn what helps you make meaningful progress.
