She is direct in her approach, and clients state that this is what they like about her. She has worked with a multitude of individuals and couples and has helped many make positive changes in their lives.
Denise sees counseling with individuals as a journey with the client and therapist. She feels privileged that someone is willing to share their pain and fears with her. She is always amazed at how much strength and resiliency each individual has and sees her goal as helping the individual see this in themselves.

"I believe in people and their ability to make changes, even when facing the most difficult obstacles."

Why did you decide to become a counselor?
I always knew that I wanted to "help people". I know that sounds simple and I realized that helping people was not as simple as it sounded. Through my own journey with counseling, I realized how difficult it is at times to ask for help.
What types of clients do you work with best?
I work best with clients who struggle with asking for help, who believe they can handle everything on their own. People who sometimes have a hard time seeing that they are getting in their own way in making the changes they want to see happen in their lives.
What type of clients are you most excited to work with?
Clients who are on the fence that counseling will help them. Clients who are struggling with issues of alcohol/drug use and their families. Clients who feel hopeless, who feel "stuck".
What's one thing you wish all clients knew?
That everyone has the potential to change it just takes work.
Why did you choose to practice at Thriveworks?
l like their philosophy of helping people and making access to counseling not complicated.
What inspires you?
Individual's strength and resiliency in some of the most difficult situation's life can throw at them.
What can clients expect in their first session with you?
A very relaxed non-threatening approach. Meeting them where they are.
What do you want to accomplish with an individual in their first session?
Instilling the belief that, no matter how difficult, they have the ability to make the changes they want in their lives. Hope!
What should clients know about you before scheduling a first counseling session?
I work hard at listening to what people say and what they don't say and making individuals feel comfortable. This is their time, and we work at their pace.
What do you do for fun/on your time off?
I spend a lot of time outdoors. I love to garden and see this as my therapy.
What's one thing about you that defines you (non-professional)?
I have been told I have a very unique sense of humor.
