Why did you decide to become a counselor?
Growing up in a military family, we moved very often which meant leaving behind friends, schools, activities and familiar places. I had a difficult time making these adjustments and as a result I experienced tremendous sadness and felt very alone in my grief. No one took my feelings seriously believing I would just get over it. I made a promise to myself that I would learn how to help others so that they would be taken seriously and would receive guidance.
What types of clients do you work with best?
I work best with girls and women whom are dealing with depression, anxiety, abuse, trauma, grief and pain. Consequently, many have developed unhealthy relationships with their partners, spouses, work, alcohol, drugs and themselves, and a downward cycle has been created.
What type of clients are you most excited to work with?
I am most excited to work with clients who want help, will work on themselves and their relationships, will explore new perspectives and embrace possibilities, will consider feedback, and will practice new ways of communicating.
What's one thing you wish all clients knew?
One thing I wish all clients knew is they can overcome. They can do it; whatever they define as "it".
Why did you choose to practice at Thriveworks?
I chose to practice at Thriveworks because they have a proven track record for treating mental health issues since 2008 on a national level. I was very drawn to this company from my interviewing experiences and meeting with professionals who exuded warmth, positivity and support.
What inspires you?
I am inspired to do my best, care for others, and make meaningful contributions in my lifetime.
What can clients expect in their first session with you?
Clients can expect a warm welcome, becoming familiar with the basics of therapy, discussing the reason for initiating services, and identifying desired changes so that therapy will no longer be needed.
What do you want to accomplish with an individual in their first session?
In the first session, I want to establish rapport and a sense of confidence in the individual that I can help them. I want to have an understanding of the circumstances leading them to call for help. I want to know the goals they want to achieve. I want them to feel comfortable, heard and understood. I want them to have a sense of hope that their situation will improve.
What should clients know about you before scheduling a first counseling session?
I care deeply about the people I get to work with. I often see strengths and abilities in them that they have forgotten or no longer see in themselves. I am calm and optimistic.
What do you do for fun/on your time off?
I love to garden. I have a butterfly garden. I am an avid Tampa Bay Rays fan and I love to go to their games at Tropicana Field. I like to ride my bike and go to the beach.
What's one thing about you that defines you (non-professional)?
I love my family the most in life.
