About Salena

I am a licensed professional counselor of mental health with over three years of experience working with diverse clients, primarily teenagers and young adults, while welcoming individuals of all ages. I specialize in anxiety, depression, and trauma. My goal is to help clients navigate difficult emotions, build effective coping skills, and live authentically despite the challenges their symptoms may create. I support individuals facing everyday stressors as well as those working through the impact of past experiences and trauma.

I use an integrative approach, tailoring treatment to each client rather than relying on one modality. I incorporate techniques from CBT, DBT, EMDR, and mindfulness to meet individual needs. My style is casual, supportive, and professional, creating a safe environment where clients feel heard, build trust, and engage fully in the therapeutic process.

Starting therapy can feel overwhelming, and the journey can feel like a roller coaster with ups and downs. The good news is you are not alone. My goal is to provide a safe space where you feel heard, understood, and empowered. If you're ready to take this ride, I am here and invite you to schedule an appointment with me.

Get to know Salena

Why did you decide to become a counselor or psychiatric provider?

I originally had majored in Immunology and Medical Microbiology, but I took a look at the Mental Health epidemic occurring in the country and took an interest in helping others be able to work through life while dealing with challenging circumstances. I have dealt with anxiety and depression in my life and found therapy to be helpful.

What types of clients do you work best with?

I work with a large range of clients, ranging from 12 years old to 40 years old. I primarily like to work with later teens and young adults, as I feel that is a population that struggles greatly with mental health.

What's one thing you wish all clients knew about therapy, mental health, or the healing process?

Therapy is not linear, that it requires work and practice to aid in healing. Therapy is not just focused on the anxiety, depression, or the trauma, those are things you deal with daily. It's about being able to incorporate happiness and joy into your life amongst those challenges.

What can clients expect in their first session with you and in the early stages of therapy?

The initial sessions will look at getting to know one another, gaining background and building rapport. I think it's important there is a good rapport before getting into.

What personal experiences or values inform your practice as a therapist/provider?

I myself struggle with anxiety and depression and I know what it is like to navigate life while experiencing these symptoms. My experience of these diagnoses allows me to connect with clients and understand what they are experiencing.

How do you tailor therapy to meet each client’s unique needs?

I use an integrative approach, tailoring treatment to each client rather than relying on a single modality. I incorporate techniques from CBT, DBT, EMDR, and mindfulness to meet individual needs. My style is casual, supportive, and professional, creating a comfortable, safe environment where clients feel heard, build trust, and engage fully in the therapeutic process.
