Why did you decide to become a counselor?
I decided to be a counselor before I really knew what that was. I have been empathic and a good listener for as long as I can remember and people have always gravitated toward me.
What types of clients do you work with best?
I work best with people that have severe and chronic mental illnesses like Bipolar Disorder, Depression, Borderline Personality Disorder, and Anxiety/PTSD. I am most effective with helping people to utilize their own personal strengths to affect change in their lives.
What type of clients are you most excited to work with?
I get excited to work with all types of people because I just enjoy storytelling that much. If I was forced to choose, I would say I do some of my best work with those who have trauma history, self-esteem issues, identity issues, and relationship issues.
What's one thing you wish all clients knew?
I wish people knew that therapy can be fun and is meant to be enjoyed. It's not just there for those experiencing illness but also for those who just want personal development.
Why did you choose to practice at Thriveworks?
I chose Thriveworks because they have a good reputation in the area. I wanted flexibility in scheduling both telehealth and in person therapy. Thriveworks also appears to be the kind of place that adjusts the service to current industry trends.
What inspires you?
I feel inspired when I see my people having breakthroughs in their thinking and in their understanding of what they can do to help themselves. Growth inspires me.
What can clients expect in their first session with you?
They can expect someone who has a sense of humor and wants very much for them to have a positive experience, someone who listens well and shows interest in what they have to say, a very patient person.
What do you want to accomplish with an individual in their first session?
I want to get an in depth history of what their personal history is and where they come from and hopefully begin the process of relationship building/trust building. I also anticipate planning with them what they want to see improve most.
What should clients know about you before scheduling a first counseling session?
I am a very thoughtful and flexible therapist and only expect people to be consistent in their efforts and take therapy seriously. And most importantly, therapy will be fun and affirming!
What do you do for fun/on your time off?
I like puzzles, the news, and researching topics of interest. I am also interested in historical events and read about these sorts of things often. I am a lover of all kinds of music, I write poetry, and appreciate art in all forms.
What's one thing about you that defines you (non-professional)?
I am very passionate about my family and fiercely devoted to them. My definition of family is different too so its members come in many different shapes and sizes.
