About Lauren
Lauren Brown is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with over 20 years of experience in mental health care in both New Jersey and Delaware. She has a passion for working with women of color, specifically Black women and couples. Lauren has extensive experience working with many populations, such as ex-offenders reunifying with their families, those seeking employment, and severely and persistently mentally ill individuals at a state-run psychiatric facility. Areas of expertise include forensics, people with severe and persistent mental illness, and vocational stressors. Lauren has a Master's in Social Work and a Bachelor’s in Psychology from Rutgers University.
Lauren has extensive knowledge and experience working with people with eating disorders, self-esteem issues, changing eating habits and body image. Lauren uses CBT therapeutic inventions and nutrition to help support a healthy lifestyle. Lauren also uses CBT and teaches coping skills, including reframing and grounding. Through her own experience, Lauren has become a menopause educator and can help guide you to treatment resources.
Lauren believes that she can help you normalize your feelings by reframing and looking at the bigger picture. She is not your average therapist. Lauren’s sessions are “girlfriend” sessions, where you talk about your life and she uses her knowledge to suggest helpful changes. She is firm but empathetic and will support you through your wellness journey.

Why did you decide to become a counselor?
I love helping people. I want people to live their most fulfilling lives and I'm honored when they choose me to apart of that process.
What types of clients do you work with best?
I work best with open minded clients that are willing to do something different or outside their box to feel better.
What type of clients are you most excited to work with?
I love working with women of color because we share a common lived experience and I think clients relate to me well.
What's one thing you wish all clients knew?
Everything happens for a reason. we are all exactly where we are supposed to be. There is power in positive thinking.

I am inspired my ability to make everyday what I want it to be.
What can clients expect in their first session with you?
Let's chat and get to know each other. I will ask you lots of questions to get to know you. I will also allow time at the end for you to ask more about my professional background.
What do you want to accomplish with an individual in their first session?
I want the client to feel at ease and sense that these sessions are a safe space. I also want the client to know that this is a partnership to their own wellness.
What should clients know about you before scheduling a first counseling session?
I will confront things head on. If you say that you want to accomplish something and we agree on that and then you are not following through, I will hold you accountable. We will then figure out why follow through has been a problem and what we can do to change it.
What do you do for fun/on your time off?
I have an 8 year old and a puppy pitbulls. In the warmer months, I love to do all things water and outside. I like win festivals, tattoo conventions and volunteering at animal sanctuaries. I am an amateur photographer whose medium is nature specifically waterways, sunsets and sunrises. I'm also a personal trainer and nutrition coach. In the winter, I am a recluse and wait for the warmer months.
What's one thing about you that defines you (non-professional)?
Deep connections with others including animals. Fighting for those that are thought of as less than in this society and doing what is right.
