Get to know Laura

Why did you decide to become a counselor?

I decided to become a counselor after working with adolescents in a residential treatment facility. During this experience I learned that individuals and families who feel a tremendous amount of emotionality need professionals to join, understand, accept, and help them re-learn effective coping patterns.

What type of clients are you most excited to work with?

I am most excited to work with clients who want to learn, explore, and challenge themselves.

What’s one thing you wish all clients knew?

The road to happiness is full of twists and turns!

Why did you choose to practice at Thriveworks?

I have worked in several different areas - residential, school based, and community based mental health. Thriveworks provides a unique experience for individuals in being a one stop shop that can refer clients to other clinicians who have different expertise if/when clients need it.

What inspires you?

The lightbulb moments client have.

What can clients expect in their first session with you?

Clients can expect during our first session to review protocols and procedures of therapy and Thriveworks, as well as learn about my individual style. Discussion of needs, goals, and history of therapy also occurs as we work together in establishing if myself or other clinician would a best fit.

What do you want to accomplish with an individual in their first session?

Identifying their wants/needs in therapy.

What do you do for fun/on your time off?

Hang out with my goldendoodle, Gunner!

What’s one thing about you that defines you (non-professional)?

I love sports.
