Get to know Patricia

Why did you decide to become a counselor or psychiatric provider?

I decided to become a counselor because I have a deep well of caring, a strong memory, a fine attention to details and I think it's exhilarating watching and supporting people as they transform. I've also gone through a lot of my own challenges in life and have a wide variety of lived recovery experience to draw from, which helps me empathize with people from all walks of life.

What types of clients do you work with best?

I work best with clients who manage day to day stressors reasonably well, but who want to do deeper healing work. I tend to click best with people who are eager to learn, curious, open-minded, creative and willing to get out of their own way.

What type of clients are you most excited to work with?

I feel excited working with clients who have some coping skills, but strongly desire more. I have a lot to offer folks seeking to build more self-mastery.

What's one thing you wish all clients knew?

That everything is temporary including thoughts, emotions and experiences. I aim to help clients live as fully and as well as they can, as soon as possible because life is short.

Why did you choose to practice at Thriveworks?

I enjoy feeling like I am contributing to my community and like I am a part of a greater mission. I hope to be of service in a meaningful way!

What inspires you?

Art, nature and change.

What can clients expect in their first session with you?

I will ask open and closed ended questions, provide initial impressions, answer questions, explain more on my approach and what a typical session looks like with me and collaborate with you on your initial treatment plan goals.

What do you want to accomplish with an individual in their first session?

Building rapport, creating a common understanding of the counseling process, ironing out logistics.

What should clients know about you before scheduling a first session?

That counseling is a commitment and results vary depending on if it's a good fit, the right time, the right level of care, style/approach and the level of intention and effort put in by both the counselor and client.

What do you do for fun/on your time off?

I enjoy writing, going for walks, traveling to new cities and photography.

What's one thing about you that defines you (non-professional)?

I have a zest for life and care greatly about humanity at large.

Can you tell us about a success you had with a client?

Some of my most rewarding work was helping clients in their first days sober from heroin up through years of sustained sobriety. I have a passion for helping to see people through their lowest moments in life.
