About Melissa
Melissa Pagan is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT) with over 10 years of experience in the mental health field. She is passionate about helping adolescents, adults, couples, and families address their unique challenges and live more fulfilled lives. Melissa specializes in depression, anxiety, grief, trauma, anger, behavioral issues, child therapy, family conflict, parenting, self-esteem, relationship issues, and major life transitions.
Melissa completed her Master's degree in Marriage and Family Therapy at Fairfield University in Fairfield, CT. She also has a Bachelor’s degree in Sociology from Southern CT State University. Melissa utilizes multiple treatment approaches including mindfulness, cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), motivational interviewing, solution-focused therapy (SFT), and much more.

Why did you decide to become a counselor?
I decided to become a therapist because I truly enjoy helping people and families. I love understanding family dynamics and an individual's journey.
What types of clients do you work with best?
I have experience with all age populations, and all types of families.
What type of clients are you most excited to work with?
I am most excited to work with clients that are ready to do the hard work of therapy.
What's one thing you wish all clients knew?
I wish all clients knew that the mental health journey is a roller coaster, it's not linear, and it's unique to everyone.

What inspires you?
What inspires me are the clients that want to change whatever is not working in their lives at the moment. The clients that want to understand the why.
What can clients expect in their first session with you?
In this first session, clients can expect to build a rapport with me. I want to get to know my client and understand why therapy is needed right now in their lives.
What do you want to accomplish with an individual in their first session?
I would like to gain an understanding of what their strengths are, what are the areas in the lives that they feel need improving upon, and why therapy now, what brought them to me.
What should clients know about you before scheduling a first counseling session?
That I am a honest, transparent therapist.
What do you do for fun/on your time off?
I hang out with my daughter and watch movies.
What's one thing about you that defines you (non-professional)?
I am goal oriented, I strive to constantly have another goal to work towards.
