About Kevin

Kevin Muhammad is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker who has experience working with clients starting from the ages of 3 to 80. Kevin has served as an entrepreneur, hiring teachers and providing youth services to underprivileged kids and those with special needs, for more than a decade. He is very passionate about helping children, adolescents, adults, and couples find their inner resources and the coping skills to overcome any presenting problem that may arise in their lives.


Kevin completed his Master of Social Work (MSW) at the University of Saint Joseph. Kevin utilizes a variety of treatment modalities which include eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR), cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), and mindfulness.

Why did you decide to become a counselor or psychiatric provider?

I became a counselor because I saw firsthand what therapy has done in my life and in the lives of others. I have witnessed people grow, become resilient, and overcome traumatic situations to live a productive and high functioning life.

What types of clients do you work with best?

I work best with clients who have adolescent and adult clients.

What type of clients are you most excited to work with?

I am most excited to work with adult clients.

What's one thing you wish all clients knew?

I would like all my client's know that each and every one of them has the capacity to heal.

Why did you choose to practice at Thriveworks?

I chose to work at Thriveworks because of the diverse populations they serve.

What inspires you?

I am inspired by the self improvement and healing of others.

What can clients expect in their first session with you?

A client can expect empathy, understanding, validation and support at their first session.

What do you want to accomplish with an individual in their first session?

I would like to establish a therapeutic alliance with clients during the first session.

What should clients know about you before scheduling a first session?

Clients should know that I am available in the early mornings into the early afternoons for sessions.

What do you do for fun/on your time off?

I am an avid reader and sports watcher.

What's one thing about you that defines you (non-professional)?

Curious

Can you tell us about a success you had with a client?

I worked with a client who was a sexual assault victim who had flashbacks, nightmares, body sensations and heightened sensitivity. We worked together for several months after which she was no longer triggered by the incident. It was such an amazing experience to witness this.
