My name is Isis Lowhar, LMSW, and I am a social worker and therapist with a Bachelor's degree in Sociology and a Master's degree in Social Work. My experience includes working in both private practice and community-based programs, supporting adolescents, adults, couples, and families navigating a wide range of challenges and life experiences. I have supported individuals experiencing trauma, crisis and high-risk situations, relationship and family concerns, and challenges that come with different stages of life. These experiences have given me a broad perspective and a genuine appreciation for each person's unique story.

My approach is warm, compassionate, calm, encouraging, nonjudgmental, and direct. I utilize CBT, DBT, trauma-informed approaches, solution-focused therapy, motivational interviewing, and elements of Multidimensional Family Therapy (MDFT). I'm especially passionate about anxiety and self-esteem. I also integrate Christian faith-based practices if desired.

My goal is for you to leave therapy feeling supported, encouraged, empowered, and hopeful. You do not have to figure it all out alone. You deserve a space where your experiences are met with compassion and without judgment. I am honored to walk alongside you as you work toward healing and growth. When you're ready, I encourage you to schedule an appointment.

"I believe therapy should be a safe space where you can be completely honest without judgment, because difficult seasons in life are not meant to be figured out alone, and when you desire it, faith and therapy can work together to support your healing and growth."

Why did you decide to become a counselor or psychiatric provider?

I decided to become a counselor because I understand what it feels like to go through different seasons of life and feel alone along the way. Sometimes, simply having someone who will listen without judgment and provide a safe space to be open and honest can make a meaningful difference. I believe that having someone to talk to without judgement, fear, worry, or the feeling that you have to navigate everything on your own can go a long way. I became a counselor because I want to offer that kind of support and walk alongside others as they navigate their own journeys.

What types of clients do you work best with?

I work best with clients who are open to selfreflection, willing to take accountability, and able to listen and engage in the therapeutic process. I value working with individuals who are open to exploring their thoughts, feelings, and experiences and who are willing to take an active role in their growth. I believe therapy is a collaborative process, and I strive to create a space where clients feel heard, supported, and comfortable being honest with themselves and with me.

What's one thing you wish all clients knew about therapy, mental health, or the healing process?

I wish all clients knew that sometimes, it gets ugly before you begin to see the beauty. Therapy opens a door that invites you to explore feelings, thoughts, and experiences that you may have avoided or pushed aside. At times, the process can feel uncomfortable, overwhelming, or even like you're taking steps backward. Healing may require you to revisit the same things more than once, and there may be moments when you question whether therapy is working or wonder if you're making any progress at all. But growth doesn't always happen in ways that are immediately visible. Healing is not always a pretty process. Sometimes, it's messy, uncomfortable, and difficult but working through those difficult places can ultimately create space for something healthier and more meaningful to emerge.

What can clients expect in their first session with you and in the early stages of therapy?

In their first session, clients can expect me to listen. I want to provide a safe, nonjudgmental space where they feel comfortable being open, honest, and able to pour their heart out without fear of being judged. My goal is for clients to feel heard, respected, and understood as we begin to build a trusting therapeutic relationship. In the early stages of therapy, we will take the time to understand what brought you to therapy, explore what you're experiencing, and begin identifying areas where you would like to grow and heal. There is no expectation that you have everything figured out when you walk through the door. We will take the process one step at a time, together.

What personal experiences or values inform your practice as a therapist/provider?

My personal experiences have deeply shaped who I am, both personally and professionally. I have walked through some very difficult seasons in my own life. There were moments when I had to navigate some very dark places, and my faith in God was a significant source of strength and guidance for me throughout those seasons. Those experiences have given me a deeper understanding of what it means to struggle, to feel alone, and to find the strength to keep moving forward. They have also allowed me to grow spiritually, personally, and professionally and have shaped the compassion and understanding I bring into the therapeutic space. My faith is a significant part of who I am, and I believe it informs the way I approach my work. When appropriate and aligned with a client's values and preferences, I hope to allow my faith to be a foundation for the way I provide support, while always honoring each client's individual beliefs, experiences, and journey.

How do you tailor therapy to meet each client’s unique needs?

I tailor therapy to each client based on their individual needs, experiences, and goals. Although people may experience similar struggles, no two people are the same, and their needs will be different. I believe in meeting clients where they are rather than forcing them through the same process. Therapy is not a one size fits all approach. I want to understand each client's unique experiences and work together to find an approach that feels supportive, meaningful, and appropriate for where they are in their journey.
