About Daniel

Daniel Garel is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT) with 6 years of experience in the mental health field. He strives for excellence in helping adolescents, teens, adults, couples, and families address their challenges and identify/pursue their life worth living. Daniel specializes in mental health disorders, trauma, substance use disorders, behavioral issues, relationship issues, major life transitions, and stress management.

Daniel completed his Master's Degree in Marriage and Family Therapy at Fairfield University. He started his career working with adolescents in a long-term residential facility through his undergraduate career, which sparked his pursuit to work with families and couples. He then began working with clients with substance use and mental health disorders throughout his graduate school profession, where he developed his skills in supporting his clients and their goals. Daniel uses multiple treatment models, including dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), motivational interviewing, solution-focused therapy, narrative therapy, structural family therapy, Bowenian family therapy, and strategic family therapy.

Everyone has their limits and everyone gets to a point in their life where they hit a wall or feel like they cannot overcome an obstacle. Daniel provides a judgment-free zone where you can feel comfortable and safe to talk about anything. He will join you as a co-explorer on your life's journey and assist with helping you make the path clearer by gaining new perspectives and techniques that suit your needs. Get to know Daniel

Why did you decide to become a counselor?

I've always found a passion with helping people throughout my life as I would always provide a shoulder to cry on or an ear to listen. I've naturally provided a safe environment for people to feel comfortable when talking to me about anything.

What types of clients do you work with best?

I work well with both adolescents and adults with different needs, including mental health disorders, substance use disorders, marriage/family issues, and any challenges individuals may face in life.

What type of clients are you most excited to work with?

I am most excited to work with any and all clients that seek out help and support.

What's one thing you wish all clients knew?

If there's one thing I wish all clients knew, it would be that they have the ability and the power to make the changes they need to have their lives improve.

Why did you choose to practice at Thriveworks?

I chose to practice at Thriveworks after a former coworker of mine told me about the great work she does at Thriveworks. Practicing at Thriveworks will help me achieve my personal goals of success.

What inspires you?

Making a difference for others and helping others finding solutions inspires me.

What can clients expect in their first session with you?

Clients can expect a safe and judgement free environment where we will work together collaboratively to identify goals to work on throughout your therapeutic journey.

What do you want to accomplish with an individual in their first session?

I want to build a rapport with an individual in their first session and work together to identify the most important goals to work towards in therapy.

What should clients know about you before scheduling a first counseling session?

Clients should know that I am very open, friendly, and willing to put in the hard work with you.

What do you do for fun/on your time off?

During my time off, I enjoy going to the gym, practicing Taekwondo, and spending time with my family, friends, and cats.

What's one thing about you that defines you (non-professional)?

One thing that truly defines me is my resilience to keep moving forward, even if it seems like it's impossible.
