Why did you decide to become a counselor?
I decided to become a counselor because it runs in my family. My Dad is an LCSW, my Mom is an LCSW and my sister is an LCSW. I’ve always had a passion to help people and had found that being a counselor I can directly help people who need it.
What types of clients do you work with best?
I work best with adults and anyone who is ready to put the work in. My background is working with addiction and working with incarcerated individuals. I also work best with individuals dealing with mental illnesses such as depression and anxiety.
What type of clients are you most excited to work with?
I am most excited to work with people who are volunteering to come to therapy and recognize that they need help. My career has focused mainly working with patients that are required and mandated to meet with me so I am excited to work with individuals who have sought out counseling for themselves.
What's one thing you wish all clients knew?
The main thing I want all my clients to know is that therapy is a safe and nonjudgmental environment. We are here to help our clients with all sorts of issues big and small and there is no shame in talking through whatever is bothering you in therapy.
Why did you choose to practice at Thriveworks?
I chose to work at Thriveworks because I love the culture they created and promote. Here I feel that I can help me grow in a supportive environment where I can ask for support while also being trusted in my skill set.
What inspires you?
What inspires me is my clients. I love being able to watch my clients work through their issues and grow in session. I t takes a lot to be able to admit that they may need help and it is truly a privilege to watch them develop in sessions.
What can clients expect in their first session with you?
In my first sessions I like to focus on developing a rapport with my patient. I believe in the importance of developing a strong relationship and connection. If the patient knows that I am invested in their success they are more likely to continue to keep coming back and opening up more as we work together.
What do you want to accomplish with an individual in their first session?
In our first session I want to accomplish a few things. First develop a rapport with each other. Therapy is based off developing a strong relationship with each other so I want to get off on the right foot with each other. Secondly I want to accomplish setting goals with the client. There is a reason that you came to my office so I want to get on the same page on what your goals are and how we can begin working on them.
What should clients know about you before scheduling a first counseling session?
Clients should know that I am easy going clinician but also one that is going to be honest and not afraid to be honest with you. My job is to help you and sometimes that means not sugarcoating things. In the end I want you to know that I am just as invested in your success as you are.
What do you do for fun/on your time off?
In my free time I am usually spending time with my family. I am married with a 5 year old son and I love spending time with them either at home or out in Denver doing family activities with them. I am also a sports fanatic and can be found often at Coors Field as I am huge baseball fan or any of the other Colorado sports teams. I also love to box in my free time in order to maintain some exercise routine.
What's one thing about you that defines you (non-professional)?
I think one thing that defines me is my genuineness. I like to think I am an honest and an authentic person. I try my best to be the best role model possible for my son.
