Get to know Dana
Why did you decide to become a counselor?
I originally decided to become a counselor after writing a research proposal in college on heroin abuse amongst adolescents in New Jersey. I had a strong desire to help adolescents and young adults who were struggling with mental health. I strayed away from the addiction side of things during my journey becoming a therapist, and found I love helping others with mental and behavioral health.
What types of clients do you work with best?
I work best with clients who enjoy a little humor and sarcasm and are ready to be challenged.
What type of clients are you most excited to work with?
I am most excited to work with children, adolescents and young adults who need support making behavior changes, managing anxiety and depression, and who seek guidance with relationships.
What's one thing you wish all clients knew?
I wish all clients knew that they are not alone in what they are going through, however each experience is unique. Seeking therapy is a strength in helping you become healthy, safe, and successful. Also, to feel safe to be open about anything! With my background, I have heard it all, and clients will never be judged or shamed.
Why did you choose to practice at Thriveworks?
I chose to practice at Thriveworks for the amazing team culture and clinical support. A career at Thriveworks isn’t just about finding a job that pays the bills; it’s about helping others, joining a community, and learning to thrive both personally and professionally.
What can clients expect in their first session with you?
Meeting a new therapist for the first time can be uncomfortable or intimidating, so establishing a safe, empathetic environment is important. The first session can look like answering any questions the client may have, addressing concerns, and setting goals.
What do you do for fun/on your time off?
I spend most of my free time with my goldendoodle, Baxter. I love anything and everything outdoors!
