Get to know Cheryl

Why did you decide to become a counselor?

Becoming a counselor appealed to me because I want to help people with their personal and psychological issues.

What types of clients do you work with best?

Ideally, my client would be open, honest, and motivated to heal. Everyone is unique, with their own set of strengths and challenges. So much can be accomplished in a setting of support and acceptance.

What type of clients are you most excited to work with?

I love to work with clients who are ready to grow and heal.

What's one thing you wish all clients knew?

Life can be comfortable and peaceful. You can make healthy choices that are best for you and the people you love.

Why did you choose to practice at Thriveworks?

Thriveworks is composed of a group of therapists who create a healthy, supportive, and positive environment for their colleagues and their clients.

What inspires you?

With all of the chaos and conflict in today’s world, it can be overwhelming. However, I am inspired by the many people who are kind and want to help others.

What can clients expect in their first session with you?

In my first session with a client, I like to warmly greet him or her, then find out what brings them in and how I can help.

What do you want to accomplish with an individual in their first session?

In our first session, I’d like to let my client know that therapy is a safe place to talk about things that can be difficult at times. I always want to get to know a bit about my client, answer any questions they might have, and determine a course of action to heal moving forward.

What should clients know about you before scheduling a first counseling session?

I am open minded, non-judgmental, and have been described as having a Zen like calm about me.

What do you do for fun/on your time off?

I enjoy all kinds of music and love going to concerts. I am a classical flutist. Spending time with friends, reading a good book, and relaxing with my cats are all very important to me

What's one thing about you that defines you (non-professional)?

If I were to be remembered for one thing, I would like it to be that I was a kind person.
