Why did you decide to become a counselor?
I've always been drawn to helping other's in need and extending a source of hope or a beacon of light while other's are in a storm. I know how it feels to go through hardships and feel exhausted, defeated and discouraged. I also know that we cannot take pain away from other's, so I want to help people help themselves. Find their inner strength and be by their side to weather the storms of life.
What’s one thing you wish all clients knew?
Nothing is inherently "wrong" with someone because of the way they react. Behaviors and feelings make sense in their context, let's explore where we learned certain reactions, if they are helpful and if they aren't, what can we replace them with?
What can clients expect in their first session with you?
Having the client feel comfortable. Meeting a new therapist for the first time can be intimidating, so establishing a welcoming environment is important. Answering any questions the client may have, and addressing any concerns as well.
