Get to know Sarah

Why did you decide to become a counselor?

I wanted to be a therapist ever since I was a child. I have always been someone who wants to be the listening ear to people in my life and help them work through what ever challenges they are facing. This natural desire to help people led me to study Psychology in my undergraduate studies and culminated with me getting my graduate degree in Psychology with an emphasis in Marriage and Family Therapy and ultimately becoming a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist.

What types of clients do you work with best?

I work best with clients who are honest and open to being vulnerable and are motivated to make positive changes in your life.

What type of clients are you most excited to work with?

I am most excited to work with clients who are interested in learning coping skills and setting goals to address the challenges they are facing in their lives.

What's one thing you wish all clients knew?

Every person deserves to someone they can talk to that is objective, empathetic and caring. I want all my clients to know that we are a team on this journey of healing, and that there will never be any judgement as we progress on the path to improved mental and emotional well being.

Why did you choose to practice at Thriveworks?

I chose to work at Thriveworks because it allows a wide audience of people in need to access mental health support on their terms. I am excited to have the opportunity to help my clients make progress toward their goals.

What inspires you?

I am constantly inspired by the clients I work with who make the decision to live their most honest and authentic lives and allow themselves to participate in working towards self-discovery.

What can clients expect in their first session with you?

During our first session we will aim to get to know each other and learn if we are a good fit. It is important that you feel comfortable talking with your therapist and that I have the appropriate skill set to help you reach your therapy goals.

What do you want to accomplish with an individual in their first session?

During a first session I want to learn why you came to therapy and what you want to accomplish working together. It is also important to me to begin building our relationship so you feel comfortable when working with me.

What should clients know about you before scheduling a first counseling session?

I want all my clients to know before working with me that as your therapist I will provide a safe and supportive space for you to share your story at your own pace and work towards achieving your goals. I will listen to you with no judgement, highlight your natural strengths, and work as your partner every step of the way while also challenging you to look deeply within yourself and discover how you connect with yourself and others.

What do you do for fun/on your time off?

I love to cook and bake, and you will often find me in my kitchen coming up with new recipes to share with friends and family. I am also an avid reader and love to discuss the newest books I have finished with friends. When I need to unwind I love to watch television or work out. As someone who grew up near the beach, I will take any chance to be near the ocean.
