Why did you decide to become a counselor?
I am interested in the whole body-whole mind approach to medicine, mental-health, and healing. I have always been interested in how individuals are influenced by their-macro and micro-environments— their families, cultures, and societies. That is why I studied anthropology and Human Resources. I believe that the question of defining oneself is not a simple one. I help individuals discover their higher selves and fullest potential and believe the therapeutic alliance is a partnership. After attending workshops at a local school, which I ended up attending ((Sofia University), I decided that I wanted to help people on a more personal level, especially after going through challenges in my own life
What types of clients do you work with best?
I work with all clients. However, my specialties are working with the following populations and issues: youth/teens; those experiencing grief/loss; the LGBTQ+ community, chronic pain/illness, anxiety/depression; work/life balance; racial/acculturation concerns; family issues; and life/job transitions.
What type of clients are you most excited to work with?
I enjoy working with clients who are invested in their care and want to understand their inward and conscious motivations. Essentially, I am excited to work with clients who want to write the next “chapter of their lives.”
What's one thing you wish all clients knew?
I wish they knew that I have gone through many of the things they are going through on some level. I believe that I have attracted clients facing life situations similar to mine even if not always on the same level of intensity..
Why did you choose to practice at Thriveworks?
I like the accessibility availability to many people and the coordination of care offered.
What inspires you?
During my spare time, I am inspired by songwriting; writing poetry; playing guitar; and enjoying nature. I enjoy learning about Chinese, Egyptian, and Japanese cultures. I have collected art from these cultures since a young age. I enjoy local landmarks such as Griffith Park, Venice Beach, Santa Monica, West/North)Hollywood, and want to explore Koreatown, Chinatown, and Little Ethiopia (I am a “newbie” here). My favorite movies are What the Bleep Do We Know, The Dark Crystal and Star Wars because of the themes which focus on overcoming fear over love. I am beginning to “jam” with friends in the studio to put my lyrics to music which address the human aspects of life, love, social issues, and the various emotions that affect us all.
What can clients expect in their first session with you?
I am always curious about learning about what motivates and inspires clients. I introduce myself and discuss goals of therapy. I explain what therapy is (and can be). I explain my approach and address any concerns or inquiries.
What do you want to accomplish with an individual in their first session?
I complete the initial assessment which looks at various areas in the client’s life, and formulate goals. I also discuss approaches which may be suitable for the client. It is a collaborative approach.
What should clients know about you before scheduling a first counseling session?
I am warm and supportive and am very proactive in providing a variety of modalities/approaches to help clients understand themselves. I utilize podcasts, meditative exercises, movies, worksheets, books, mind-body exercises, etc. depending what clients resonate with and enjoy.
What do you do for fun/on your time off?
I enjoy reading, writing, guitar, museums, cultural events and trying new foods. I also enjoy road trips and hiking.
What's one thing about you that defines you (non-professional)?
I am always learning new things and enjoy taking new classes, attending seminars/groups to explore all the facets of life.
