Michelle MacIlvaine is a Licensed Professional Counselor with 8 years of experience in mental health. She works with diverse populations who face a range of concerns including anxiety, adjustment to life’s issues, grief, trauma, parenting, and family issues. Michelle has experience with all ages from children to adults to seniors.
Michelle utilizes an empathetic, strengths-based approach to find unique solutions and help clients achieve their goals. She draws from person-centered therapy, solution-focused therapy, cognitive behavioral therapy, and play therapy.
Michelle partners with clients to help them achieve their goals in ways that fit their unique situations. She believes that true collaboration and being understood bring out the strength that we need to face life’s challenges.

Why did you decide to become a counselor or psychiatric provider?
I decided to become a counselor because friends were sharing their emotional burdens with me. I wanted more skills to help them find peace and freedom.
What types of clients do you work with best?
When the time has come and people are ready, they will find healing. Children are curious and ready clients.
What type of clients are you most excited to work with?
I am excited to help adults and children overcome trauma, anxiety, and grief. I value clients' diverse cultures.
What's one thing you wish all clients knew?
I wish that all clients knew that they are fully accepted.

What inspires you?
I am inspired by beauty in people, cultures, and truths.
What can clients expect in their first session with you?
In the first session, I would like the client to feel accepted as they share their challenge. I will listen attentively as together we gain an understanding of the problem.
What do you want to accomplish with an individual in their first session?
Together we will come to an understanding of the problem and agree on steps that we can take together.
What should clients know about you before scheduling a first session?
The first session invites a therapeutic relationship. There are questions so that you can share and I can gain a thorough understanding of the problem.
What do you do for fun/on your time off?
I enjoy reading, walking, and tea with friends.
What's one thing about you that defines you (non-professional)?
I am a social, contemplative, and group-oriented person. I love cats and volunteering.
