Get to know Janna

Why did you decide to become a counselor or psychiatric provider?

Janna became a counselor because she believes deeply in the power of connection and the human capacity for growth and healing. From a young age, she was drawn to listening, holding space for others, and making sense of life’s challenges with compassion. Through personal and professional experiences, Janna witnessed how meaningful support can help people reclaim their strength, heal from pain, and move forward with clarity and purpose. This inspired her to pursue clinical social work—where she could combine empathy with evidence-based tools to walk alongside people on their journey toward change

What types of clients do you work with best?

Janna works best with clients who are navigating life transitions, identity exploration, trauma recovery, or relationship challenges. She’s especially attuned to supporting individuals who feel overwhelmed, stuck, or disconnected—from themselves or others. Janna connects well with teens, adults, parents, and members of the LGBTQ+ community, as well as first responders and veterans. Clients who appreciate a warm, nonjudgmental, and collaborative space often find Janna’s style supportive and empowering as they work toward healing, clarity, and personal growth.

What type of clients are you most excited to work with?

Janna is most excited to work with clients who are ready to explore themselves more deeply and make meaningful changes in their lives. She’s especially passionate about supporting individuals facing identity questions, recovering from trauma, or navigating major life transitions. Janna feels energized by helping clients reconnect with their strengths, challenge unhelpful patterns, and build more fulfilling relationships—with others and with themselves.

What's one thing you wish all clients knew?

One thing Janna wishes all clients knew is that the brain is an organ—just like the heart or lungs—and it deserves the same care and understanding. Mental health is deeply connected to the body, and healing often involves both the mind and the body working together. You're not "broken"—you're human, and your experiences are valid.

Why did you choose to practice at Thriveworks?

Janna chose to work with Thriveworks because it’s a clinician-founded and led mental health organization that values collaboration. Thriveworks offers outpatient care with a team-based approach, allowing clients access to providers who can address needs beyond Janna’s scope—supporting a more complete and well-rounded treatment plan.

What inspires you?

Janna is inspired by the strength and resilience of the human spirit. She finds deep motivation in witnessing clients show up for themselves—even in the smallest ways—and take steps toward healing, self-discovery, and change. Janna is continually moved by her clients’ courage, vulnerability, and willingness to grow, even in the face of uncertainty.

What can clients expect in their first session with you?

In the first session with Janna, clients can expect a welcoming, judgment-free space where they’re encouraged to be themselves.

What do you want to accomplish with an individual in their first session?

Janna will take time to get to know you—your story, your goals, and what brings you to therapy—at a pace that feels comfortable. Janna focuses on building trust and connection, laying the foundation for collaborative and meaningful work ahead.

What should clients know about you before scheduling a first session?

Before scheduling a session, clients should know that Janna leads with compassion, curiosity, and respect. She believes therapy is a partnership and values meeting clients where they are—without pressure or judgment. Janna brings warmth, a sense of humor, and a deep belief in each person’s ability to grow, even when things feel uncertain or overwhelming. She would also like clients to know that she is human and although the has the credentials and experience, she has overcome her own struggles and is human.

What do you do for fun/on your time off?

Outside of her clinical work, Janna enjoys live music, reading, meditation, yoga, and spending time on the water boating at Lake Powell. She also values traveling and cherishes quality time with her adult children and grandchildren.

What's one thing about you that defines you (non-professional)?

One thing about Janna that defines her is that she is extremely resilient personally and outside of her academic credentials, although she choses not to self-disclose, she has her own story compliments those credentials which enables her to offer accurate empathy to a wide range of clients.
