Why did you decide to become a counselor or psychiatric provider?
When I was younger, I grew up in an environment where I constantly did not know who to turn to. Being raised in the South led to a mentality of not talking about emotions, feelings, or trauma. As I grew older, I realized I wanted to help others. Over time, I came to the understanding that I wanted to be the person someone could reach out to whenever they felt they had no one to turn to. I became fascinated with the idea of not "fixing" someone so much as empowering them to gain the growth they seek and being their cheerleader along the way.
What types of clients do you work with best?
I have worked with clients from ages 8-75 and throughout multitudes of backgrounds. I find working with teens and younger adults to be the majority of my clientele, but enjoy serving the community in general. I thrive in treating behavioral concerns, grief, women's issues, and trauma exploration.
What type of clients are you most excited to work with?
I enjoy working with complex issues and motivating others to achieve their peak potential, finding that I am most excited when my client gains a "win" or achieves enlightenment in this process.
What's one thing you wish all clients knew?
Therapists are human too. I will laugh, cry, and ponder the difficulty you face with you. I have tattoos, and dye my hair wild colors. Which people say makes me unconventional and wild. But being different means I am the perfect therapist for those who see themselves as the outcasts and the unseen, because knowing that I am human too means you are not alone in this.
Why did you choose to practice at Thriveworks?
I want to work with a company, not just for it. Thriveworks appears to be of like mind. The goal is to help others, not build a mentality of overworked, underpaid staff and overcharged, barely treated clients. Thriveworks shows me they focus as attentively to helping others as I do.
What inspires you?
What inspires me is the ability to be present while a young girl grows from broken and lost to confident and assured, or the moment that a person's face lights up with enlightenment after struggling for so long to gain understanding. My clients inspire me.
What can clients expect in their first session with you?
Initial sessions are not always easy, and I understand that a client is telling a stranger their most vulnerable information. However, know that the information (and the uncomfortable feeling of disclosure) that is experienced is used to help with understanding and healing. Ultimately, know that I expect nothing more than honesty from you, and we can go at your pace.
What do you want to accomplish with an individual in their first session?
I want to build trust and a sense of safety, bonding with the client in order to allow to discover their purest intentions behind therapy.
What should clients know about you before scheduling a first session?
I am honest and straightforward in discussion, finding that rapport comes in many forms. I often use dry humor and the ability to laugh in sessions in order to promote a relaxed and conversational approach to discussion. I want to meet the clients where they are and have a client know that the one thing they can expect is honesty without judgment.
What do you do for fun/on your time off?
I enjoy spending time with my family, reading, and doing anything that allows me to be in the water. My family is my universe and are a strong focus in my free-time.
What's one thing about you that defines you (non-professional)?
Ironically, my hair and fashion. I find that a new look or style can make me feel like a new person, embolden me or relax me as I see fit. Some days its no make-up, jeans or sweats, and messy-bun vibes. Some days its black lipstick, a sundress, and cherry shaped earrings. I wear my personality. Literally.
