Savannah Donahoe is a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) with a background focused on trauma, crisis response, LGBTQIA+ issues, gender-affirming care, PTSD, depression and anxiety, self-esteem, gender identity-related issues, sexual identity,-related issues, grief, and loss. Savannah completed her Master's degree in Counseling at the University of Montevallo. She has experience in trauma and crisis response, as well as gender-affirming care. Savannah utilizes multiple treatment approaches including mindfulness, cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), trauma-focused cognitive behavioral therapy (TF-CBT), solution-focused therapy (SFT), person-centered therapy (PCT), and gender-affirming therapy.

Get to know Savannah

Why did you decide to become a counselor?

I have always felt the need to provided support and assistance to others during their challenges. I felt it was important for me to learn the different techniques and therapies that can allow me to help others.

What types of clients do you work with best?

I have worked well with all ages and identities.

What type of clients are you most excited to work with?

When I client comes ready to do the work, I feel the most excited.

What’s one thing you wish all clients knew?

One thing that I wish all clients knew is that therapy is hard for all folks and progress can happen in small steps.

Why did you choose to practice at Thriveworks?

Thriveworks allows me the flexibility to reach clients at a time that works for them, instead of having to take time off of work to seek mental health care.

What inspires you?

I am inspired by the amount of hard work my clients put into themselves to improve their mental health.

What can clients expect in their first session with you?

First sessions are all about building rapport and identifying areas of concerns for the client.

What do you want to accomplish with an individual in their first session?

I would like to accomplish trust between myself and the client during our first session.

What should clients know about you before scheduling a first counseling session?

The time spent in therapy is their time. I wish to create a safe space that allows the client to share when and what they feel is important to them.

What do you do for fun/on your time off?

I love to spend time outside hiking or kayaking, but if the weather is problematic I am perfectly happy watching my favorite shows while crafting.

What’s one thing about you that defines you (non-professional)?

I have a great love for animals of all types.
