About Katrina
Katrina Freeman is a licensed professional counselor with 33 years of experience in the field of mental health. She completed her Master of Arts in Counseling at the University of Alabama-Birmingham.
Katrina's approach to care is client centered, and, based on the individual needs of the client. She utilizes various treatment approaches including solution focused therapy, mindfulness, motivational interviewing, and cognitive behavioral therapy.

Get to know Katrina
Why did you decide to become a counselor?
I chose to become a counselor to provide a safe space and source of support where others can address life challenges in a confidential and judgment free environment where they are open to freely express themselves.
What types of clients do you work with best?
I work best with clients aged 17 and older with issues of anxiety, grief, depression, anger management, alcohol and drug abuse issues, and relationship issues.
What type of clients are you most excited to work with?
I am most excited to work with clients who are ready to take the journey to wellness and willing to work hard to achieve a healthier and more balanced lifestyle.
What's one thing you wish all clients knew?
I wish all clients knew that they are the author of their lives and they have the power to decide how their story (lives) will progress.
Why did you choose to practice at Thriveworks?
Thriveworks is both client and employee (clinician focused). I am very impressed with that philosophy as well as all the therapy support opportunities (workflows is awesome). I am also thrilled with the opportunity to work remotely and a flexible schedule that supports work/life balance.
What inspires you?
Faith and Hope inspire me. Hope that each moment will be an improvement over the last and Faith that what is hoped will come to fruition.

Clients can expect to meet a supportive partner on their journey to wellness and life balance; they can expect me to provide a safe space where they can be themselves and can openly discuss their concerns.
What do you want to accomplish with an individual in their first session?
I want to lay the foundation to build therapeutic rapport and trust with clients in the first session.
What should clients know about you before scheduling a first counseling session?
Clients should know that I am invested in their well being and committed to do everything I can to help them address and manage beliefs, fears, challenges, etc. that are blocking their progress towards wellness.
What do you do for fun/on your time off?
I like to travel, watch sporting events, spend time with my family, and dance.
