Smink Achila is a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner with over 14 years of experience in mental health. He works with various clients across the life span that have a variety of issues revolving around mental health with the goal of optimizing their functioning in the community.
As a Mental Health Practitioner, Smink seeks to evaluate, diagnose, and develop a treatment plan and integrate his knowledge base in mental health to ensure his clients are satisfied with the services that he offers.

Why did you decide to become a psychiatric provider?
This has been my passion since High school. My brother over the years has been suffering from depression and nobody would understand him. During my rotation in various psychiatric hospital my connection to mental health was fortified. I have never turned back. I have been working in psychiatry since graduating from college. I love helping people that very few understand and are often stigmatized.
What’s one thing you wish all clients knew?
In treatment it's our journey together. We will fight through this.

What inspires you?
If a client come back to me and says, "you really helped me." Positive feedback not only reinforce my love for mental health but inspires me to do even more.
What can clients expect in their first session with you?
Clients can expect one on one engagement, compassion, empathy and reassurance.
What do you want to accomplish with an individual in their first session?
A plan of care that is patient centered.
What do you do for fun in your time off?
Watch and play soccer, watch basketball, running since I am from Kenya and reading.

My ability to be calm under pressure or adversity.
