About Sheila
Sheila is a board-certified Psychiatric Mental health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP-BC) with experience in treating a wide range of mental health concerns such as depression, anxiety, mood disorders, PTSD, insomnia, schizoaffective disorders, OCD, and dementia. As a PMHNP, Sheila is passionate about providing quality medication management while incorporating cognitive behavioral therapy, providing education, and advocating for overall mental wellness.
Sheila completed her Masters of Science (MSN) degree at Walden University. She has a strong background in behavioral health both as a nurse (7yrs) and as a PMHNP. She has a passion for building a strong rapport with patients, incorporating evidence-based practices in medication management and cognitive behavioral therapy. Her overall goal is to work with the patient in developing the most efficient treatment plan for optimal well-being.

Get to know Sheila
Why did you decide to become a psychiatric provider?
My lived experience growing up with a family member who was diagnosed with a mental health disorder played a huge role in why I wanted to become a psychiatric nurse practitioner.
What's one thing you wish all clients knew?
I wish all my clients to know that they can still live their best lives irrespective of the diagnosis they get. That as long as they are willing, we can all collaborate in ensuring the best treatment plan and compliance is in place, so that they can continue to strive in life to their highest best potential.
Why did you choose to practice at Thriveworks?
The mission of Thriveworks aligns with my purpose in life. I love to see people smile and happy again!
What inspires you?
Being able to impact someone positively inspires me. Life is a roller coaster and I believe every little positive impact created makes a difference.
What can clients expect in their first session with you?
Clients can expect that our first session will entail building rapport, identifying their best possible strengths, rationales and education on why a particular diagnosis or treatment plan is chosen.
What should clients know about you before scheduling a first counseling session?
I want my clients to know that I respect and admire their courage in taking the most important step to seek for guidance on their mental wellness. I also want them to feel comfortable, and confident that my role is to work with them as a team in seeking the best evidence -based approach to their mental wellness journey.
What do you do for fun/on your time off?
Listening and dancing to music. I also love travelling and exploring new places with my family.
What's one thing about you that defines you (non-professional)?
I am a positive person. I love to impact people positively.
